Rings of Power season 2 and the 3 best (and 2 worst) shows streaming on Prime Video right now

As a long-time fantasy enthusiast and binge-watcher extraordinaire, I can confidently say that the arrival of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 is an event that has me absolutely giddy with excitement! With a life filled with countless hours spent in Middle Earth, I’ve grown quite fond of its tales and characters.

The second season of “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” has finally made its grand entrance, and we’re simply thrilled! This complex fantasy saga has created such an extensive universe, and it’s captivating to witness it unfold in a fresh perspective with this prequel show.

The initial three episodes are currently available for streaming, with a new episode being added each week going forward. It’s safe to say we’re in for an exhilarating journey! This group certainly kicked things off quickly from the get-go. Without a doubt, The Rings of Power is one of the top shows currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. There are many others that share the spotlight with it, and unfortunately, there are also some that might not be worth your viewing time.

Here are some excellent shows that often appear on such lists, but today we’re going to delve into some under-the-radar series and those worth avoiding. For instance, you might want to check out ‘The Boys’, ‘Fallout’, ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’, ‘The Wheel of Time’, among others. However, if you’re seeking alternatives, take a look at our curated list of outstanding shows available on Amazon Prime Video! In this discussion, we’ll be highlighting some less popular series and those that may not be worth your time. Let’s get started!

Best shows to watch on Prime Video

My Lady Jane

I’ve extolled the virtues of this series on earlier occasions, and here I go again. Frankly, I can’t help but rave about it! If you haven’t given My Lady Jane a try, you’re truly missing out. This show boasts an enticing blend of romance, magical elements, humorous sidekicks, power struggles for the throne, and much more. It’s rather disheartening that Amazon Prime Video terminated the series after merely one season, as it had such untapped potential.

But even so, it’s definitely still worth your time. I won’t lie to you, it’s going to feel like many plot points are left unresolved. It’s clear the creators were hoping to at least get a second season. And it should have. Though as I said, this series deserves your time and you won’t regret it. The 8-episode story is a reimagined tale of the real-life Lady Jane Grey who reigned England for only nine days. This explores what would have happened if she wasn’t beheaded.

Outer Range

A different series that unfortunately won’t continue on Amazon Prime Video is Outer Range, wrapping up after just two seasons. What I enjoy about this program is that, much like My Lady Jane, it offers a distinctive perspective in the crowded streaming landscape where many shows seem identical. Frankly, I’m growing weary of this sameness. Outer Range combines time-travel and Western motifs, which some might assume wouldn’t gel. However, this series pulls it off quite well, encouraging deep thought. Here is the official summary:

Outer Range centers on Royal Abbott (Josh Brolin), a rancher fighting for his land and family, who discovers an unfathomable mystery at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness. A thrilling fable with hints of wry humor and supernatural mystery, Outer Range examines how we grapple with the unknown.

Citadel

As a gaming enthusiast who appreciates a thrilling ride, you won’t want to miss Citadel featuring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden. This series is top-notch, with an evident substantial budget that didn’t spare any costs.

The second season is being developed right now, along with two spin-offs that are set to debut this coming fall. The first spin-off, titled “Citadel: Diana,” is scheduled for release on October 7, 2024, and the second one, called “Citadel: Honey Bunny,” follows a month later on November 7. If you end up enjoying the franchise, there will be plenty of content for you to enjoy, as I have a hunch that you will!

Worst shows to watch on Prime Video

Sausage Party: Foodtopia

Watch Batman: Caped Crusader instead

Regardless of its notable cast including Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Michael Cera, and Edward Norton, the show Sausage Party: Foodtopia falls short of meeting expectations, and I must say it was quite dull and even a bit foolish. The concept that underpinned the film was questionable from the start, and to my surprise, they decided to produce a sequel series? No, thank you.

Maybe if this franchise was designed specifically for children, it might have been successful. However, discussing food, especially sausage, as entertainment for adults? I’d rather not. And you should consider the same. If you enjoy animated shows, I would suggest giving Batman: Caped Crusader a try instead. It delves into the origins of the superhero in Gotham City.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith

Watch Bosch: Legacy instead

Apologies for the sentiment. Although I adore Donald Glover, I struggled to find any captivating aspects in the Mr. and Mrs. Smith series on Prime Video. The episodes seemed overly lengthy, tedious, and monotonous, forcing me to fast-forward through certain sections. I was disheartened because I had anticipated enjoying this show more. It’s surprising that it has been renewed for another season, considering my experience with it.

If you’re seeking an engaging series with plenty of action, the sequel to Bosch, titled Bosch: Legacy, might just be your cup of tea. You can watch it for free on Amazon Freevee. Originally, Bosch ran for 7 seasons and is available on Prime Video. The new series, Legacy, has already aired two seasons and has been renewed for another. It offers action, suspense, and character depth – everything you could ask for!
