As a gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I’ve seen studios rise and fall like waves in the ocean. The news about Tequila Works, the creators behind games like RiME and GYLT, has left me with a heavy heart. I remember the joy their games brought to my gaming life, the immersive worlds they crafted, and the unique stories they told.
The Spanish video game development company, Tequila Works, known for creating ‘RiME’ and the ‘delicate horror’ game ‘GYLT’, has submitted a petition for bankruptcy. The company cites persistent market conditions as the reason, and the original founders have chosen to step down.
According to General Manager Térence Mosca, as reported by GI.biz, since its establishment in 2009, Tequila Works’ approach to game development has revolved around creating projects with enthusiasm and energy. During these challenging times, the company is making every effort to offer assistance and advice to their teams.
Mosca stated that he felt “proud of what we’ve achieved collectively,” yet acknowledged that the company was forced to apply for bankruptcy protection. The latest production from the studio was “Song of Nunu: A Tale from the League of Legends Universe.” In 2022, it successfully obtained funding from Tencent. Regrettably, despite efforts to trim costs, the studio has been unable to overcome the economic challenges.
