Rihanna parties with A$AP Rocky in her native Barbados after his shooting trial was postponed
As a seasoned legal professional with years of experience under my belt, I must say that the case of Rocky and Ephron seems to be quite intriguing. From what I’ve gathered, it appears that this altercation stemmed from a heated argument between the two, which escalated to the point where a gun was involved.
On Monday, Rihanna was spotted having a fun evening with her partner A$AP Rocky, in their home country Barbados.
36-year-old singer who’s known for “Stay”, and a fellow 36-year-old rapper celebrated at Zouk nightclub before the start of her Fenty Beauty Caribbean launch event.
In an outfit consisting of a grey t-shirt and shorts, Rihanna displayed her well-toned legs, completing the look with stylish strap heels.
The duo — who share sons RZA Athelston, two, and Riot Rose, one — grabbed hotdogs and burgers outside and stopped to pose with Ras the Burger guy.
This week has been favorable for Rocky as his court trial, involving accusations of shooting a past friend and plaintiff A$AP Relli, was pushed back to Tuesday, allowing him the opportunity to perform at a charity event in Thailand instead.
Rihanna completed her look with a Dior purse and a number of gold necklaces.
She styled her dark waves into an on-trend, slightly disheveled bun and hid her gaze behind a set of large shades.
Simultaneously, Rocky wore a white T-shirt, pastel-colored yellows pants, and yellow work boots that coordinated with his outfit.
The duo laughed it up together while enjoying a bite to eat.
On Tuesday, a judge in Los Angeles extended an invitation to me, Rihanna, to attend the criminal court for a jury trial, where my boyfriend is scheduled to stand trial, facing charges of alleged gun violence against a past collaborator and friend during a heated dispute.
At a hearing where the trial was postponed for the third time until January, Judge Mark Arnold expressed to Rocky’s lawyer, Joe Tacopina, that if she chooses to attend, she is welcome.
The judge inquired from Tacopina whether “the woman who gave birth to Rocky’s two kids” would be present during the upcoming trial, as it is anticipated to run for approximately a week to ten days.
Tacopina mentioned uncertainty about her attendance at the full trial, but suggested it was possible she might show up initially.
The judge made it clear to both lawyers, including Deputy District Attorney Paul Przelomiec, that defendant Rakim Mayers (also known as Rocky) should not anticipate receiving special favors during the upcoming trial.
‘The fact that Mr. Mayers is a celebrity will make no difference in this court,’ he said.
‘He is going to be treated like anybody else.’
The court postponed Rocky’s trial from November 12 to January 21, providing time for both the prosecution and defense to share their lists of witnesses and gather relevant evidence.
On Tuesday, the judge unwillingly agreed to a delay in the trial, pointing out that it had previously been pushed back on two occasions.
However, he made it clear to both lawyers that he wouldn’t accept any further postponements. Instead, he stated his preference for jury selection to commence on the 21st of January.
Rocky – who was not at the court in downtown LA Tuesday – has pleaded not guilty to two charges of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and he’s facing up to eight years in jail if convicted of both felonies.
The accusations are linked to a dispute that took place in Hollywood back in November 2021 involving Rocky and another rapper known as A$AP Relli, who was once a part of the ASAP Mob music group founded by Rocky in Harlem in 2006.
During a court hearing in November, the prosecution provided evidence including security camera footage and testimonies from Ephron and police officers. This evidence was used to support their claim that during an argument, Rocky brandished a handgun and fired it towards Ephron twice, causing injury to his hand.
According to Ephron, Rocky pointed a gun at his own stomach and threatened to shoot him instantly, followed by discharging shots.
Rocky’s lawyer, Tacopina – who has worked with former President Donald Trump in several prominent cases – contested the prosecution’s argument, stating that there was insufficient evidence to confirm that a shooting incident took place. He further described the surveillance video and witness testimonies as inconclusive.
In summary, after the initial court hearing, Judge M.L. Villar determined that the combined video footage and testimonies provided enough proof to take the case to trial for the defendant.
In a different lawsuit, Ephron’s legal team claims that Rocky brandished a firearm and intentionally aimed it towards Ephron, firing several shots.
The lawsuit states that, due to a genuine fear for his life, Ephron was hit by bullets or bullet fragments, resulting in injuries that needed medical treatment.
In April 2022, Rocky was apprehended at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), immediately after disembarking a private jet that had flown in from Barbados. During this time, he was reportedly enjoying a vacation with the renowned Grammy-winning artist, Rihanna.
The police detained him briefly under suspicion of using a lethal weapon in an attack, afterwards granting him release on a bond of $550,000. The matter was forwarded to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office for further prosecution.
In the heat of August, it wasn’t until then that Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon made a move that had my heart racing – he decided to elevate the charges from mere misdemeanors to felonies. If they had remained misdemeanors, the maximum sentence for each count would have been just a year behind bars. But with this bold step, he opened the door for a more substantial punishment.
Additionally, Rocky is required to maintain a distance of at least 100 feet from Ephron, who is also taking legal action against Mayers and Tacopina for slander.
In the recent defamation matter, I, as a lifestyle expert, am asserting that the legal team representing Rocky and Tacopina have allegedly tarnished the reputation of my client, Nora Ephron, during their defense in the civil assault case. Specifically, they’ve reportedly made false accusations, claiming he is a dishonest individual who only seeks money, and an extortionist.
Tacopina considered the defamation lawsuit as merely a ‘strategy for gaining attention’ and requested the judge to pause the case, allowing it to be resolved only after the jury has made a decision on the criminal assault charges against Rocky.
Ephron’s lawsuit over a civil matter against Rocky has been temporarily paused, waiting for the decision in his ongoing criminal case.
