Rihanna appears to IGNORE ex-pal Naomi Campbell in awkward encounter during NYFW

Last week, Rihanna left fans in surprise when it seemed like she deliberately avoided interacting with her old friend, Naomi Campbell, during a tense run-in at New York Fashion Week.

36-year-old singer, once a good friend with the 54-year-old supermodel, was caught on camera entering the Alaïa runway show wearing a sparkling dress with a plunging neckline. However, it wasn’t her elegant attire that drew attention, but rather the chilly response she gave to Campbell.

As the Umbrella hitmaker went to find her front row seat, she enthusiastically greeted British Vogue editor Edward Enninful – who was next to a Campbell.

As Campbell beamed at Rihanna, the artist passed by her unnottingly, sparking a flurry of reactions on social media platforms.

On previous occasions, this duo has found themselves in disagreements. Back in 2014, during the British Fashion Awards, a video surfaced of Naomi holding onto Rihanna and speaking to her. Following this, Rihanna responded with an icy glare.

Subsequently, it seemed as if Naomi apologized and lowered her gaze, leaving puzzled spectators speculating that she inquired of Rihanna, “Are you under the influence?” This exchange subsequently became a viral sensation online.

Over the years, Rihanna and Naomi have been photographed together multiple times – it was during the 2016 New York Fashion Week that Naomi planted a kiss on Rihanna, who was showcasing her Fenty Puma collection.

It was suggested in 2017 that Rihanna’s relationship with Hassan Jameel, who was previously linked to Naomi, might have led to their reported disagreement.

The tabloid, The Sun, stated that the supermodel, believed to have romantically linked with a Saudi tycoon in 2016, is upset over the singer’s deep connection with Hassan, as she dislikes being perceived as ‘number two’.

A once-friendly duo, known for their stylish demeanor, ignited whispers of discord after mutually unfriending each other on social platforms. It was alleged that the source of their animosity stemmed from the heir of a Toyota dealership.

Naomi now follows Rihanna again but the singer has not returned the favor. 

The paper states that Naomi didn’t approve of Hassan selecting the singer instead of herself – despite the fact that Rihanna appears smitten with him, she remains steadfast in her position.

According to a trusted source, ‘Both Naomi and Hassan are impressive figures. The details of their interaction remain unclear, but it’s evident that Naomi isn’t fond of being in a position where she is not the top choice.’

They added that Rihanna, who has a tendency to deeply invest herself in relationships, stated: ‘There’s no barrier that can halt her affection.’

It wasn’t officially confirmed that Naomi was romantically involved with Hassan, however, they were seen appearing affectionate at the British Summer Time Festival in London back in July of last year.

Instead of stifling the gossip, the celebrity from Croydon failed to dismiss rumors about their alleged strife during their appearance on Watch What Happens Live in March.

The viewer inquired from host Andy Cohen on the show whether there were no pictures or messages shared online between the two, implying if everything was alright between them.

To which the supermodel replied coolly, without batting an eyelid: ‘Everything’s fine.’
