Ridley Scott’s Darkest Adaptation Of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol Resurfaces On Streaming Charts 6 Years Later

Ridley Scott, the director known for films like Alien and Gladiator, brought a darker version of Charles DickensA Christmas Carol to the screen. The miniseries, originally released in 2019, was executive produced by Scott and written by Steven Knight, who also created Peaky Blinders. Tom Hardy also served as an executive producer, and Guy Pearce plays the iconic role of Ebenezer Scrooge.

This adaptation of A Christmas Carol features a talented cast including Andy Serkis, Stephen Graham, Charlotte Riley, Johnny Harris, Jason Flemyng, Vinette Robinson, and Joe Alwyn. It received a 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and originally aired on BBC One in the UK in December 2019. You can now watch it on Hulu, which also means it’s available through Disney+.

According to Disney+, the 2019 film A Christmas Carol is currently the 6th most popular series in the US on their streaming service. It’s performing better than both The Santa Clauses and Zootopia+, which are also gaining popularity during the holidays, likely due to the recent success of the Zootopia sequel which has earned over $1 billion. While many Christmas movies and shows are becoming more popular on streaming platforms, the 2019 version of A Christmas Carol stands out.

Taylor Swift and the show Percy Jackson and the Olympians are currently neck and neck for the most popular spot on streaming platforms. Right now, Taylor Swift’s concert film, The End of an Era, is number one, with Percy Jackson right behind at number two. However, Percy Jackson is likely to take the lead soon, as there won’t be any new episodes of The End of an Era released.

Although one particular version of A Christmas Carol has faded from memory, the story remains incredibly popular, meaning almost any new adaptation could be a success during the holiday season. In fact, filmmakers are still eager to revisit the classic tale – there are currently two major new adaptations of A Christmas Carol already planned.

Ti West will direct a new film called Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, starring Johnny Depp as Scrooge. Daisy Ridley, Rupert Grint, Sam Claflin, Andrea Riseborough, and Ian McKellen are also part of the cast. Separately, Robert Eggers, known for his work on Nosferatu, is also creating a version of A Christmas Carol, with Willem Dafoe playing the lead role.

You can find other versions of A Christmas Carol streaming now, including the 2009 animated film and The Muppet Christmas Carol on Disney+. However, the 2019 adaptation is gaining popularity, and fans of the original story might want to give it a watch this holiday season.
