Ridley Scott confirms Gladiator 3 plans
As a seasoned gamer of cinematic epics, I can’t help but feel a surge of nostalgia and anticipation at the prospect of another installment in the Gladiator saga. The original film was more than just a movie; it was an experience that transcended the screen and etched its images onto the fabric of my gaming memories.
Sir Ridley Scott has confirmed that he is planning to make Gladiator III.
The sequel to the original movie arrives soon, marking two decades since its release, yet the acclaimed filmmaker has his sights set on a potential third installment, albeit one that is still just beginning to take shape.
When The Hollywood Reporter inquired about upcoming projects, referencing earlier speculation from Premiere about a third movie, Scott responded, “I’m more inclined towards developing Gladiator III. We already have a concept in mind.
He added that, if a third film were to happen, it would be inspired by The Godfather Part II (thankfully, he seems to have abandoned Nick Cave’s idea of bringing back Russell Crowe’s Maximus).
In my gaming world, I find myself stepping into the arena once more with “Gladiator 2.” This time, I’m embodying a grown-up Lucius, son of the fierce Lucilla, now portrayed by Paul Mescal. Similar to before, Sir Derek Jacobi returns as Senator Gracchus, while new faces join the fray – Pedro Pascal from “The Last of Us,” Denzel Washington, and Joseph Quinn from “Stranger Things.” It’s going to be an epic battle!
Based on the available videos, it’s noticeable that Washington has gained considerable focus due to his authentic portrayal of a North African character by speaking in his native accent.
In a recent conversation, Washington explained his decision by saying it was wiser not to attempt an accent than to risk giving a poor impression.
“Well, the thing was, where are we?” he remarked. “Whose accent would it be? What does that sound like anyway? You’re going to end up imitating someone and end up with a bad African accent.”
Apart from outlining his reasons for being drawn to the project, he mentioned during a different conversation that “Most movies nowadays don’t excite me. For me to be involved, the director has to spark my interest. And let me tell you, I was profoundly captivated by Ridley.
Our initial encounter was fantastic, and now here we are again. He’s fully invested, brimming with enthusiasm for his upcoming project. He serves as a source of motivation. At 86, it’s inspiring to see him feeling this vibrant and alive.
Gladiator II will be released in cinemas on November 15 in the UK and November 22 in the US.
