It was so scary at Ricky Martin’s concert last night in Montenegro! Someone actually released tear gas towards the stage, and everything just stopped suddenly. People started rushing to get away, and thankfully, medical staff were there to help anyone who needed it. It was a really abrupt end to the show, and we were all pretty shaken up.

For safety reasons, Ricky Martin and his team left the stage while security and police worked to handle a situation and make sure everyone was safe, according to a statement.

A concertgoer from Montenegro described the scene on Instagram, saying they were confused when people suddenly began pushing each other and a pepper spray smell filled the air. Many attendees quickly covered their mouths and exited. They weren’t sure if anyone remained and didn’t see any police action. Although the concert resumed, they had already left, hoping everyone was safe.

It’s not certain whether the substance used was tear gas – which is actually a powder, not a gas – or pepper spray. Both cause similar irritation, even though they’re made of different things. Police often use tear gas to control crowds, while pepper spray is more commonly carried by people for protection, according to Bio Recovery, a cleanup company specializing in hazardous materials and crime scenes, primarily in the southern United States. Both substances can spread easily through the air.

Despite concerns from his team, 54-year-old Martin decided to continue the show after officials confirmed it was safe to do so, according to a statement from his publicist.

Ricky Martin performed as part of the celebrations for Montenegro’s 20th anniversary of independence, which it regained after the dissolution of Yugoslavia. The concert comes ahead of his European tour, kicking off in June and continuing through August with stops in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Czechia, Poland, Hungary, Istanbul, and other cities.

I was so excited to hear that Ricky Martin is going to be performing at Heritage Live in the U.K.! He’ll be at the Royal Sandringham Estate on August 22nd, and Sugababes, Olly Alexander, and Sophie Castillo are playing too. Apparently, this is going to be his only U.K. show in 2026, which is amazing! Heritage Live has a great lineup this summer, with UB40, Lionel Richie, and even Eric Clapton also scheduled to perform in July and August.

Giles Cooper of Heritage Live Festivals told the BBC they were excited to host a true pioneer of Latin music, which has become incredibly popular worldwide. He predicted the event would be a fantastic celebration.

Puerto Rican singer Martin appeared briefly during Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show in February. He performed a 30-second segment of his song “Lo Que Le Pasó a Hawaii” while seated in a white chair, recreating imagery from Bad Bunny’s album cover “Debí Tirar Más Fotos.” The song is a plea to Puerto Ricans to learn from Hawaii’s history and avoid making similar compromises should Puerto Rico ever consider statehood.
