Ricky Gervais is accused of bullying by fellow comedian Robin Ince when they toured together

As a seasoned observer of fashion and royalty, I must say the Roof Gardens event was a spectacle to behold! Keely Hodgkinson, with her golden glory from the Paris Olympics, shimmered like a beacon in that glittering dress, complemented by a Burberry bag that matched her Olympic spirit.

Ricky Gervais has consistently challenged and poked fun at both A-list celebrities during the Golden Globe awards and environmental activist Greta Thunberg in his comedy routines, without ever holding back or avoiding controversy.

However, fellow comedian Robin Ince alleges that the playful teasing from Ricky Gervais during their tour had an impact on his physical wellbeing.

Reflecting on the situation now, I can’t help but realize that it was indeed bullying all along. At times, I have a knack for adapting to situations quickly, and there were instances where I found myself thinking, ‘Wow, this is really strange.’

However, those familiar with me found issue with how that relationship functioned. I’m not implying it was a devastating ordeal, but after just two weeks, I developed red bumps which my doctor identified as a stress rash. I believe my hair is falling out in large chunks now.

On The Starting Line podcast, Ince, aged 55, asserts that Gervais’s behavior, which he describes as excessive bullying, reached a point where Mackenzie Crook, his co-star from The Office, intervened and addressed the issue directly with him.

2015 marked the year when Ince decided to retire, expressing that he had been plagued by self-doubt, restless nights due to insomnia, and feelings of remorse for neglecting his family.

Up until the year 2022, he continued to maintain a friendship with Gervais, who is now 63 years old. However, their relationship took a turn when he published a critical blog post about Gervais for making jokes concerning transgender individuals in his Netflix comedy special titled SuperNature.

‘It is easy to forget the collateral damage of jokes,’ Ince said.

In a recent post, he expressed concern that transphobic jokes have become financially successful and fail to acknowledge the harmful impact on a significant number of underrepresented individuals. He further noted that Ricky might view his actions as merely mischievous behavior rather than recognizing their dehumanizing consequences.

I believe it makes him a pin-up and role model for the alt-Right.’

Gervais declines to comment.
