Ricki Lake’s Shocking Home Loss Revelation: ‘I’m a Survivor’
On Thursday, it appeared that Ricki Lake pledged to reconstruct her Malibu residence, which had been destroyed by the recent wildfires in Los Angeles, via a post on Instagram.
The former talk show host, aged 56, described his Malibu residence as a sanctuary, a place where countless friends and family members found comfort. There were far too many get-togethers to keep track of, and there was always plenty of space on the property for socializing, dancing, and playing.
I confess, it’s overwhelming and debilitating to think about repeating everything… yet, I vow, I shall.
In the post, Lake (who is known for appearing in movies like Hairspray from 1988 and Cry-Baby from 1990 directed by John Waters) included emojis such as folded hands, a heart, and a broken heart.
Lake shared a collection of pictures in a connected slide show, capturing various moments spent at the house. These pictures highlighted the pristine surroundings, showcased at different times throughout the day.
In various photos, she was caught enjoying time with her husband Ross Burningham (age 57), both inside their house and in the backyard. The duo tied the knot at their residence in January 2022.
Additionally, the collection of photos contained an image showing visits by friends like Rosie O’Donnell, Pamela Adlon, and Robin Ruzan at their home.
In my expertise on all things lifestyle, I too delight in sharing snapshots of my beloved pooch, Mama. Recently, she struck a charming pose by the crackling fireplace, with a breathtaking sunset as her backdrop, perched precariously yet gracefully overlooking a cliffside – an enchanting sight indeed!
On January 9, Lake shared a comprehensive set of posts on Instagram, documenting the devastation of her Malibu residence as it was affected by the persistent California wildfires.
On the fateful day of January 9th, a date forever etched in my heart, I, along with the incomparable Burningham, found ourselves engulfed by the merciless flames that took away our cherished home from us. Every moment since then has been a testament to the timeline of events that led up to this devastating loss.
‘If I am anything at all, I am a f’ing survivor,’ Lake said in text on a somber selfie.
11:24 AM on January 7th, Lake noticed the first hints of smoke rising from Temescal Canyon. This prompted her and Burningham to immediately set up their available fire defense system, which comprised of sprinklers.
By 4:10 PM on the 7th of January, Lake stated that Burningham had employed a garden hose to put out a fire in a palm tree located on their neighbor’s property.
Born in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, the celebrity stated that about two hours after, Burningham attempted to draw fuel for the fire protection system’s engine, but unfortunately, this effort was unsuccessful.
Lake said that by 6:55 p.m., she and Burningham faced the question ‘Do we stay or do we go?’
Lake mentioned that they weighed the pros and cons of attempting to protect their home versus prioritizing their own safety during the stormy, fiery night with her partner.
Lake stated, ‘At exactly 8:02 p.m., we reluctantly gave up and departed from our residence,’ and expressed gratitude for having safely and unhurt exited the premises.
She added, ‘No doubt had we stayed, we would not have survived.’
Lake shared dashcam footage of her exit down Malibu’s curvy roads at night.
Lake expressed her heartfelt hopes and wishes for the well-being of the local residents and their homes, given the devastation inflicted by the fires.
‘I think I might have just said goodbye to my house,’ Lake said.
In a heartfelt manner, Lake referred to her friend Kirby Kotler as an “absolute guardian” whom she will always be thankful for. She expressed that Kirby made every possible effort to protect their cherished property.
Lake expressed gratitude to her 397,000 followers for their love and well wishes, stating that she was posting this update in response to those who had been asking about it, during these challenging times.
Overwhelmed by the devastation, I find myself fervently appealing once more: let us all extend our hearts in prayer for those who’ve been hit hard by this catastrophic ordeal. If you can, lend a helping hand. My deepest respect goes out to our courageous firefighters and first responders. I earnestly hope they remain safe throughout their tireless efforts.
Among several notable figures, Lake’s residence was among those damaged by the fires, joining a roster of stars like Anthony Hopkins, Tina Knowles, Candy Spelling, Paris Hilton, Spencer Pratt, and John Goodman who also suffered losses.
