Ricki Lake, 57, reveals facelift was ‘impulsive’ decision after drastic 40-pound weight loss: ‘Never looked back!’

Ricki Lake has shared that she made a somewhat hasty decision to get a facelift almost two years ago, shortly after losing 40 pounds, and didn’t do much research beforehand.

The 57-year-old actress, who shared last year that she’d achieved her weight goal of 130 pounds, recently discussed the subject openly on Monday’s episode of the Inside Edit podcast.

The actress, known for her role in Hairspray, has openly discussed her weight loss and revealed last year that she had a facelift in July 2024, calling it one of the best choices she’s ever made.

Lake admitted to making a very quick decision about getting cosmetic surgery without doing any prior research, as she told stylist Maeve Reilly.

A friend suggested she see a doctor, so she scheduled a consultation and, just a few weeks later, an operation.

I scheduled a consultation with him as soon as possible, and then immediately booked a follow-up appointment. That first appointment was in mid-June, and the next one was on July 18th. I was very happy with the decision and haven’t regretted it since.

After dropping 40 pounds, the star explained that she had sagging skin underneath her chin.

It wasn’t simply about disliking my appearance or wanting to appear younger. It wasn’t even about my gray hair, either.

Lake explained it felt as if a part of him was missing and wouldn’t regenerate, like something lost that couldn’t be recovered.

She described it as a wonderful experience and said she recovered very quickly.

‘I hosted an event at the Academy Museum two weeks after my surgery. I looked flawless. Flawless.’

She first publicly shared that she’d had a facelift last June while on the show Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen.

The actress, known for her role in ‘Cry-Baby,’ revealed she had a lower face and neck lift because it was something she’d been concerned about.

The celebrity told Cohen they had lost weight and developed loose skin on their neck, which they then had surgically corrected.

She also publicly thanked Dr. Allen Foulad, a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon she called a ‘genius,’ for performing her facelift.

Cohen responded, saying he was definitely going to Los Angeles for the event. He explained he’d seen a lot of cosmetic surgery transformations while working in his current role, and thought this particular work was exceptionally well done.

Lake said she couldn’t see any scars after the procedure, adding, ‘It looks fantastic!’

I’m happy to discuss this openly and honestly. I’ve always believed in being upfront, and I want to help remove any shame or negative feelings associated with it.

I noticed something really inspiring recently – a celebrity marked the one-year anniversary of her procedure by sharing about it on Instagram. It’s so brave to be open about personal journeys like that, and I always applaud people who use their platform to connect with others on a real level.

She wrote, and shared before and after pictures with her followers, marking the one-year anniversary of a personal change she’d made.

Today, July 18th, marks one year since I had a deep plane lower face and neck lift, along with a mild CO2 laser treatment,” Lake shared. She also praised Dr. Foulad, calling him “a true master in his field.”

After losing forty pounds, I was bothered by the loose skin under my chin. At my age – 55 – I knew it wouldn’t improve on its own.

She added that she still felt confident and loved her body, particularly after putting in so much effort to get in shape.

Looking back a year later, I realize making that courageous choice was one of the best things I’ve ever done.

Lake emphasized that she is ‘an open book and always will be…’

In January 2025, Lake announced she had achieved her weight goal of 130 pounds naturally, without using weight loss medications like Ozempic or Wegovy.

The TV personality previously told Us Weekly they hadn’t used drugs because they weren’t prediabetic.

Those medications aren’t bad at all – they’ve really helped a lot of people. Personally, though, I wanted to avoid depending on them if possible.

Okay, so it’s not just me noticing everyone looking amazing! I’ve been following all the buzz, and honestly, I’m obsessed with finding out their secrets. It turns out some HUGE stars – like Oprah, Meghan Trainor, and even Sharon Osbourne – have been talking about using these GLP-1 drugs, like Ozempic, to help them with weight loss. It’s wild to think about, but it explains so much! I’m just fascinated by how they’re all getting these incredible results.

Lake lost weight by combining a strict ketogenic diet with regular Pilates and two-mile daily hikes, which she did wearing a weighted vest.

The former talk show host explained that wearing an Oura ring to monitor their health helped them focus on sleep and reducing stress. They said this approach has been – and continues to be – successful.
