Rick Springfield remembers falling off a stage 25 years ago. So does his body: ‘brain damage’
Rick Springfield, known for his hit song “Jessie’s Girl,” shares that he continues to deal with the long-term effects of a severe fall that took place many years back.
75-year-old Grammy-winning artist disclosed that a recent full-body MRI scan uncovered brain injuries linked to a fall he experienced during a performance in Las Vegas back in 2000. He discussed this incident and its lasting impact in an interview with People magazine, published on Monday. The singer is known for hits like “Don’t Talk to Strangers” and “Affair of the Heart.
Springfield initially believed he’d only fractured his wrist following a fall, but upon further examination with a scan, it was discovered that there had been some brain injury as well. Now, he is focusing on addressing and healing the damage to his brain.

80’s pop-rock idols reminisce about their longstanding friendship prior to a series of three-night acoustic performances in Southern California.
Springfield shared with the publication that his recent injury was caused by a fall from a height of approximately 25 feet, during which he repeatedly struck his head on the stage. He did not disclose the exact location in Las Vegas where this incident occurred, but he expressed his resolve to be mindful about his recovery process.
The Australian musician further discussed his lifestyle to People magazine, revealing that he maintains a consistent exercise routine, adheres to a pescatarian diet, moderates his alcohol consumption, and practices microdosing with LSD. Springfield, who has openly spoken about his battles with depression, elaborated in the interview that his dedication to his wellbeing extends beyond just his long-standing injury.
As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I’d like to share a personal anecdote about the singer known for “I’ve Done Everything for You.” Despite his father’s suspicions of stomach cancer, he never sought treatment or confirmation. Tragically, in 1981, Springfield’s father succumbed to complications from a burst ulcer after losing significant amounts of blood.
Springfield remarked, “That message was quite significant to me.” He went on to say, “To ensure a long life, one must be ready to face some unpleasant news from time to time.

Last month, Rick Springfield, the artist behind “Big Hits: Rick Springfield’s Greatest Hits, Vol. 2”, shared his thoughts on mortality with a casual candor. He mentioned in an interview that it’s crucial to stay mindful about the subject of death.
“You can only put on the party dress, but what happens at the party is up to the gods.”
