Rick Harrison’s Heartbreaking Confession: ‘I Second Guess Everything’ After Son’s Tragic Death

It’s now more than a year since Rick Harrison from the show Pawn Stars experienced the unexpected passing of his son Adam. In a recent conversation, he confessed that he has been questioning many things since then.

In January, the owner of Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in downtown Las Vegas, who is 59 years old, sadly confirmed that his 39-year-old son had passed away due to an overdose of fentanyl.

In a comprehensive conversation on the In Depth with Graham Bessinger podcast, which was published on Wednesday, Harrison chose to share extensively.

Bessinger disclosed that he discussed Adam with his mom and Tracy Whittaker, CEO of Rick Harrison Productions, and Tracy mentioned, “I understand Rick is still in pain, but he’ll always conceal it.

As a lifestyle advisor, I find myself reflecting on his journey daily. In his twenties, his struggles with substance abuse were profound. I made countless efforts to help him, enrolling him in rehabilitation centers numerous times. Each time, he would show remarkable progress only to eventually slip back.

I’ve heard this heart-wrenching tale from countless individuals. It took an alarming turn, and sadly, it wasn’t heroin that claimed his life; instead, it was a lethal dose of fentanyl that proved fatal for him, as I learned while shedding tears of sorrow.

When a child is lost, one tends to question every action. It feels as if you are constantly asking yourself, “Might I have done this differently? Might I have done that differently?” said he.

Day after day, he lingers in my thoughts, relentlessly spinning in the recesses of my mind. There isn’t a single moment when I don’t ponder him, wondering if there was something more I could have done, some other path I could have chosen. But deep down, I believe I acted with utmost conviction and diligence.

He pondered, ‘Suppose I simply picked him up, put him in the rear of my vehicle, and then drove him all the way to Oregon, leaving him by the river so he couldn’t escape or acquire anything.’

Rick often imagines numerous situations unfolding within him after the loss of Adam. He emphatically stated, “Losing a child is the most devastating thing I can possibly imagine.

Additionally, the father acknowledged that Adam had unlawfully entered their shared residence. He then contacted the police, leading to Adam’s arrest. This action was taken in an attempt to assist Adam in overcoming his issues with cleanliness.

Rick confessed that he had believed locking him up for two months would help him turn over a new leaf, but instead, he immediately returned to his old ways.

Bessinger mentioned that there might be a parent out there who finds themselves in a similar predicament as Rick, wondering what actions to take when they’ve tried everything, yet the issue persists.

Rick expressed, “You know, you aim for firm guidance, but it’s astonishing how sudden an Overdose can be. I honestly didn’t anticipate such an outcome. It’s challenging. There’s no user manual when it comes to raising kids, and each one is unique.

When asked about coping with grief, Rick shared that he reflects on cherished memories, considers his other children, and his grandchildren.

When asked about what he learned from his son’s passing, Rick responded, ‘Always cherish what you possess, for it may not be around forever.’

He makes an effort to spend a lot of time with his children whenever possible, and overall, he values enjoying life. Interestingly, there are individuals who possess significantly more wealth than him, yet they remain unhappy despite their affluence.

Rick put it simply, “Life is enjoyable if you avoid those who are unhappy. Spend time with loved ones – family and friends – and happiness will come naturally.
