Richard Wilkins’ son Christian shares a rare photo of his mother and Today show star’s ex wife

Christian Wilkins recently shared a sweet photo of himself with his mother, Michelle Burke, showing a close and loving relationship.

Richard Wilkins, 71, a host on the Today show, separated from Christian’s mother, Michelle, when Christian was only one year old.

I was so thrilled to see Christian, 29, share a photo on Instagram yesterday! He looked absolutely radiant, happily snuggled up with Michelle – they both just seemed so happy together!

Christian, wearing a blue and yellow striped T-shirt and a white cap that hid his long blonde hair, looked peaceful as he leaned his head on his mother’s shoulder.

Michelle seemed just as happy to be with her son, smiling brightly at the camera while holding his arm.

Christian shared a photo and captioned it simply ‘Mama,’ adding two heart emojis to express his affection.

It was unusual to see a photo of Michelle, as she rarely appears on Christian’s social media.

In a 2021 interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, Christian described his mother as his ‘best friend’.

‘Mum and I are very close – like best friends,’ he said. 

People always think I’m a ‘daddy’s girl’ because we’re often seen together, but honestly, I’m just as close to my mum. It’s funny how others perceive our family dynamic – my bond with both my parents is equally strong.

He also revealed that Michelle may have played a part in Christian’s unique sense of style.

Growing up, my mum made sure I had a stable and predictable life. She handled the everyday things – like getting me to school and packing my lunch – which really kept me grounded, he explained.

She had a striking and memorable style, often attending parent-teacher conferences in an unexpected outfit – like an orange checkered miniskirt with brown tights. It definitely made an impression!

Michelle was Richard’s third wife. He’s been linked to several well-known women over the years, including designer Colette Dinnigan, with whom he shares a 20-year-old daughter named Estella. He also dated Tottie Goldsmith, Liz Hayes, and was engaged to Rebecca Naso before they ended their relationship in 2009.

He has three other children, – Nicholas, 39, Rebecca, 41, and Adam, 51.

Richard is currently dating Mia Hawkswell. He publicly confirmed their relationship in October of last year, following photos of them holding hands that surfaced in May.

Richard told Daily Mail Australia that he’s doing well and is very happy with his new partner.

‘Mia is gorgeous, she’s very well, she’s very busy, she’s got lots on,’ Richard said.

Christian recently hinted at details about his sex life while having a lively conversation with Dan Brophy on his show, In The Name Of The Diva.

The two discussed whether Kylie Minogue’s song ‘All The Lovers’ is about a romantic encounter with someone physically attractive, and Christian jokingly suggested he might have personal knowledge of the topic.

Dan explained that she was telling him he was unlike anyone she’d ever loved, and asking him not to be scared, just to give her a little more time.

The host then continued to quote the lyrics of the song, saying: ‘”When you get too close it burns. It hurts.” You know?’

The model playfully admitted to having done it before, then conceded that Dan’s idea might actually have some merit.

Christian is known for his bold and confident personality, and often sparks debate with his fashion choices that challenge traditional gender norms.
