Richard Simmons’ cause of death disclosed by fitness guru’s brother: ‘Accidental’

It is disheartening to hear that our beloved Weight Watcher might have succumbed to such simple yet preventable complications like falls and heart disease.

According to official reports, the reason behind Richard Simmons’ death has not been definitively established yet. However, his brother Lenny has recently shared insights into how Richard Simmons passed away.

According to the family’s representative, Tom Estey, it was confirmed by the Coroner that Richard’s death was unintentional, caused by complications stemming from recent falls and pre-existing heart disease. Notably, Richard did not have any illegal substances in his system other than the prescribed medication he was taking. This information was shared in a statement released on Wednesday to People magazine.

As a fervent enthusiast, I can’t help but share that, although I don’t have concrete details about Simmons’ demise from the LA medical examiner directly, I was informed by The Times on Wednesday that his death cause and the official autopsy report are still under review and haven’t been finalized yet.

Lenny shared details about his brother’s passing following the demise of the self-styled Fitness Guru, renowned for his fitness empire and vibrant, sequined attire, on July 13. His death occurred a day after he celebrated his 76th birthday.

Reports of Simmons’ death following a fall at his LA home were apparently corroborated by his brother. Initially reported by TMZ in July, it was stated that while his housekeeper urged him to see a doctor, he declined, as shared by authorities.

In a tragic turn of events, Simmons’ lifeless body was discovered in his own home. At the moment he passed away, reports suggested to The Times that there were no signs of any untoward incident or crime at his residence. To this day, the Los Angeles County coroner’s records show that Simmons’ cause of death remains undetermined or pending clarification, as it is still listed as “deferred.” His body was finally released on July 17.

A week following his passing, according to TMZ who referenced his death certificate, Simmons was interred at the Pierce Bros. Westwood Village Memorial Park and Mortuary.

“I, on behalf of my family, am deeply grateful for the overwhelming affection and assistance you’ve shown us in these difficult times,” said Estey, a longtime companion of Simmons, who had been with him for over three decades.
