Richard Simmons’ cause of death ‘deferred’ by L.A. coroner amid pending investigation

As a devoted fan of Richard Simmons for decades, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions upon hearing about his passing. The news came as a shock, and the fact that the cause of death is still “deferred” has only added to the mystery surrounding this beloved figure in my life.

The medical examiner in Los Angeles County has not yet determined the cause of death for Richard Simmons and is continuing an investigation after his passing on Saturday.

The medical examiner’s records show that Milton Teague Simmons, also known as Simmons, was discovered at his residence in Los Angeles. His body is marked as “prepared for release” in the database, indicating an ongoing investigation into his death.

On Saturday, sources informed The Times that no signs of suspicious activity were found at Simmons’ residence. The renowned “Weight Saint” and television figure passed away the day following his 76th birthday.

As a movie lover, I’d put it this way: “I don’t want you to mourn my dear brother, Lenny Simmons, by feeling sadness. Instead, remember him for the genuine happiness and love he shared with countless people through his life. He reached out to thousands of individuals throughout his career to offer help and care.”

Lenny continued: “Don’t be sad. Celebrate his life!”

In the late 1970s and ’80s, Simmons gained popularity for his vibrant workout clothes and leading exercise video empire. He became a common face in pop culture due to this. Outside of fitness, Simmons made appearances on TV shows like “CHiPs,” “General Hospital,” and “What Women Want,” further establishing his presence in the entertainment industry.

In an interview with Men’s Health back in 2012, I shared that I embrace the role of the jester and the clown within me. I find joy in bringing laughter to people, whether they’re joining in or having a good chuckle at my expense. Above all, I see myself as an educator, relishing in the opportunity to spread happiness through my craft.

In 2014, Simmons withdrew from the limelight following a knee operation. Later on, he reemerged to refute speculations regarding his wellbeing – claims that included allegations of being transgender and undergoing gender transformation procedures to identify as a female.

Back in 2022, a TMZ docuseries brought up questions about my whereabouts once again. This resurfaced interest left me feeling grateful, so I took to Facebook to express my heartfelt appreciation to all of you wonderful fans for your unwavering kindness and love during this time.

A few months ago, Simmons announced that he had been diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer. He underwent treatment to eliminate the cancerous cells. This revelation came shortly after he posted cryptically about mortality on Facebook, leading fans to worry. However, Simmons assured everyone that he was not in danger of dying.

“I penned down my thoughts on cherishing each day we’re given. Apologies for any misunderstanding. Yours sincerely, Richard.”

I’ve had the privilege of representing Simmons for over three decades, Tom Estey here. We’re planning a “celebration of life” event for him, which will be open to the public. However, the specifics, such as date and location, have yet to be finalized.
