Richard Simmons’ brother compares him to Clark Kent in touching eulogy – and shares ‘secret’ that ‘not too many people knew’ about late fitness guru
As a dedicated follower and admirer of Richard Simmons for many years, his celebration of life feels like a personal loss to me. Growing up in the 80s, his energetic spirit and infectious enthusiasm were a staple in my family’s household, inspiring countless hours of sweaty fun during our living room aerobics sessions.
In a heartfelt tribute during the celebration of life event on Saturday, Richard Simmons’ brother likened him to Clark Kent.
At a memorial service in his hometown of New Orleans’ St. Louis Cathedral, Leonard Simmons honored his deceased fitness expert brother.
A clip from TMZ shows him discussing the distinctive style of Richard, characterized by his well-known tank top and gym shorts.
I shared a tiny piece of information that not many have been privy to regarding my deceased sibling – a personal detail, if you will.
He mentioned that his brother, similar to Clark Kent and Superman, would often conceal his heroic persona by wearing his superhero outfit beneath regular clothing.
Underneath what appears to be his regular attire, Richard is actually wearing a tank top and shorts,” he explained, hinting at the casual clothes he was found wearing beneath them.
‘Why, you ask?’ Lenny continued. ‘Because we think that God has another plan for him.’
He added: ‘It’s important for him to wear his familiar attire, which we are fond of, so that he can assist the saints and angels in staying fit.’
He also said his brother is now watching over his loved ones and all of his fans.
The iconic fitness guru ‘will forever be sweating with the Holies,’ Leonard added.
In simpler terms, Leonard expressed during the memorial service that although Richard Simmons isn’t physically present, we feel his spirit here tonight. He emphasized that Richard will always be remembered for his dedication to fitness, using the phrase “sweating with the Holies.” At the end of his speech, he thanked everyone for attending.
In simpler terms, Leonard mentioned that just around eight individuals attended the private funeral, yet the public commemoration event in New Orleans attracted a significant number of people, with many fans attending the memorial service by dressing up similarly to him.
On July 13, 2024, the well-known television figure, renowned for his “Sweatin’ to the Oldies” collection of aerobics workout videos, passed away at the age of 76 in Los Angeles.
His death was ‘accidental,’ a family spokesperson revealed in August.
One day following his 76th birthday celebration, he was discovered at his residence in the Hollywood Hills by his long-standing housekeeper.
According to the Los Angeles Coroner’s findings, his death resulted from complications following recent falls and heart disease playing a role in the process.
According to the toxicology findings, he wasn’t using any additional medications apart from those he had been given prescriptions for.
The Los Angeles Police Department concluded that there was no foul play involved.
Previously shared information indicates that Simmons experienced a fall at home on July 12, following feelings of dizziness. He mentioned to his housekeeper that he might need to consult a doctor the following day, should his condition persist.
