Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club hits another impressive milestone

Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club books have hit another impressive milestone.

The television series featuring “Pointless” has previously sold two books, one of which was the third in a series, and it has recently been disclosed that yet another book from this series has achieved platinum status as well.

Last night, during the Bestseller Awards on January 20th, it was confirmed that the fourth installment of the murder-mystery series titled “The Last Devil to Die” earned platinum status. This book joined other acclaimed works such as Bonnie Garmus’s “Lesson in Chemistry” and David Nicholls’s “One Day“, which were also recognized.

The show made its initial appearance in the year 2020 through “The Thursday Murder Club,” and it centers around four retirees living in a senior community, who engage in solving murder mysteries.

The book will be transformed into a Netflix film by the director known for Harry Potter, Christopher Columbus, and Steven Spielberg serves as one of its producers.

The distinguished actors comprising our ensemble are Helen Mirren portraying Elizabeth, Pierce Brosnan taking on the role of Ron, Ben Kingsley playing Ibrahim, and Celia Imrie as Joyce. In addition to them, you’ll notice familiar faces like David Tennant, Jonathan Pryce, and Naomi Ackie gracing our screens.

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but share some intriguing insights about a captivating project that Columbus and Katy Brand are working on. Interestingly enough, Osman has shed light on the reasons behind his absence from the script itself.

He consciously decided to step aside since being deeply engaged or detached is the only option, and frankly, he’d prefer to invest his time in penning another book rather than getting embroiled in all of that. Consequently, he chose to let them handle it, as he shared with BBC Bookclub.

At present, Osman is penning down the fifth installment of the series, and he confessed he harbored a small worry when observing the cast members embodying their roles during a studio tour.

He expressed that while Sir Ben Kingsley comes very close, it’s not the person he holds dear. For a brief moment, there was a tiny worry, but soon he recalled the identities of those characters.

The Thursday Murder Club is expected to premiere on Netflix in 2025.
