Richard Osman writing Thursday Murder Club movie in-joke into next book

As a devoted fan of Richard Osman’s work, I must say that his latest revelation has me utterly thrilled! The man is a master storyteller who effortlessly weaves humor and suspense into his tales, and the idea of seeing the beloved Thursday Murder Club characters come to life on screen is almost too good to be true.

Richard Osman has disclosed that he’s slipped a witty reference about the upcoming film adaptation of “The Thursday Murder Club” into his next book within the series.

The host of “The House of Games” has recently published “We Solve Murders,” the fourth book in the series, as filming for the adaptation has been completed. On today’s (September 21) episode of “Saturday Kitchen,” he shared that he’s already begun work on the fifth installment, and elements from the movie are subtly influencing his writing process.

He shared with Matt Tebbutt that he had merely begun reading “Thursday Murder Club 5” at that moment, implying that he had only just written the title on the page, which, in his words, was essentially completing a significant portion of the task.

I adore these characters deeply, and they hold a special place within me. For approximately two minutes, I find myself immersed in their world.

Initially, when penning a scene involving Ron, the Labour activist, an image of Pierce Brosnan popped into my mind as I wrote the opening section. However, I quickly reminded myself, “It’s important to remember, that’s not who he truly is. He’s merely a character in my thoughts.

In an attempt to focus on the task at hand during the summer, I found myself oblivious to the fact that Helen Mirren, Celia Imrie, and Pierce Brosnan were part of the cast. There’s a brief moment where Ron and Ibrahim engage in conversation about their favorite Bond character, with Ron expressing his preference for Pierce Brosnan.

“And I told Pierce Brosnan about that, and yeah, he approved!”

Osman made it clear that he won’t pressure the movie creators to add specific book details as easter eggs or jokes in upcoming films, although they might still choose to do so.

He stated, “It’s essential to rely on honest individuals throughout your professional journey, isn’t it? That’s why I’ve chosen to put my trust in them and delegated the task to those I consider reliable.

The movie adaptation of “The Thursday Murder Club” will hit theaters and Netflix next year. Meanwhile, you can purchase all four books in the series today.
