Richard Osman Unveils Shocking Truth Behind Dancing On Ice’s ‘Resting’ Decision!

Richard Osman has shared his perspective on why ITV opted to pause, rather than permanently cancel, the troubled series Dancing On Ice.

54-year-old presenter and TV producer decided to express his thoughts on X after the skating competition was abruptly ended from television, following numerous speculations and a significant drop in viewership ratings.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I must share some intriguing news that has recently surfaced, reminiscent of the time back in 2014 when the break from this beloved competition lasted eight years on our screens. However, just like the triumphant return in 2019, it’s coming back! Keep your eyes peeled for more details.

Regarding a program-related discussion, Richard, formerly the creative director at Endemol UK, stated, “If you stop showing it, another network could buy it in just 12 months; on the other hand, if you take a break from it, they can’t!

In simpler terms, since other networks cannot restart the popular series, ITV retains the possibility of reviving it at some point in the future.

TopMob have contacted ITV for comment.

According to a representative from ITV who spoke with TopMob, “Dancing on Ice won’t return in 2026 as there are currently no plans for another season following its recent successful run earlier this year.

Let’s express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone in the cast and crew who’ve been part of this show since 2006, across 17 series. Your dedication, whether on or off the ice, has not gone unnoticed and is deeply appreciated.

During the 2025 finale of Dancing on Ice, the program achieved its lowest viewership in its entire run, following Sam Aston from Coronation Street being declared the champion of the contest.

Although the finale was thrilling, it attracted only 2.7 million viewers, marking a significant drop from its highest viewership of over 12 million.

Or:

The nail-biting final drew in just 2.7 million viewers – a substantial decrease from the peak of over 12 million.

Simultaneously, Stephen Mulhern, our beloved host, has extended his deal with the network, as he’s currently swamped with an array of upcoming ITV programs on his calendar.

In a notable difference, Stephen maintains strong connections with the channel, whereas Holly Willoughby, his Dancing on Ice partner, faces an unprecedented situation as she no longer has an ITV primetime show after 21 consecutive years.

A source close to the matter disclosed about Stephen’s future at ITV: ‘His calendar for 2025 is already filled up, as Celebrity Catchphrase and Deal or No Deal remain strong contenders on his itinerary.’

According to The Sun, he plans to debut a fresh travel show titled “Accidental Tourist” later in the year, and he’s optimistic about a potential second season of the rebooted “You Bet!” series as well.

After only one series, Holly decided to leave You Bet!, leaving the search open for someone to step in as Stephen’s new co-host.

According to ITV’s reports, Holly was occupied with other duties following her expansion into hosting the Celebrity Bear Hunt, which marked her first significant role outside of ITV.

As an over-the- moon fan, I’ve been buzzing with excitement ever since I heard the juicy scoop! Apparently, our beloved show “You Bet” was such a hit among the viewers that they were yearning for more episodes. In response, the bigwigs at ITV took notice and, in their wisdom, have decided to give it a full season run! Can you believe it? I can hardly contain my enthusiasm!

‘Holly and Stephen are a great double act and they were both brilliant so they were asked back.

‘But Holly politely declined, she has other commitments and couldn’t make it work.’

A representative from ITV stated: ‘Regrettably, Holly wasn’t able to guarantee her availability for the hosting dates of the upcoming season of You Bet! However, we hope she’ll make an appearance as a guest panelist on one of the new episodes instead.’

For several years, Holly has been ITV’s beloved golden star, and she has become a fan-adored staple on their most popular programs like This Morning and Dancing On Ice, solidifying her position.

It seems that the host is venturing into a fresh phase of her television career since she no longer has an ITV program due to the cancellation of Dancing On Ice.

For the first time in over twenty years, Holly doesn’t have an ITV show on her schedule, a change from her long-standing role as the network’s television sweetheart.
