Richard Osman confirms he did raise concerns over Thursday Murder Club movie changes

After a lot of anticipation, the movie adaptation of *The Thursday Murder Club* came out last month. It was popular with audiences and got mostly good reviews, but some changes to the story have caused disagreement among fans – particularly regarding the character of Bogdan.

While promoting the latest book in the series on *This Morning* this week, Osman discussed some changes made to the story in the movie adaptation.

Ben Shephard wondered if Osman had ever questioned the filmmakers’ choices, pointing out that fans are very attached to the characters and easily get defensive about how they’re portrayed.

He confirmed he had said it a few times. “Yes, I did,” he stated, then challenged someone to ask whether Steven Spielberg had been listening.

“They know what they’re doing, they made E.T. I didn’t make E.T.

He clarified that the movie is separate from the books and doesn’t aim to replace them; both can exist independently.

I’ve finished writing my book, *The Thursday Murder Club*, and you can find it in bookstores now. I hope it will last for generations – it’s the story I truly wanted to tell.

I’ve already adapted stories for film, so I’m not going to do it again. It’s best left to talented writers and creatives.

They often face decisions different from what you’d personally do, and that’s what makes it interesting.

Osman didn’t specifically touch on the Bogdan change, but he has explicitly referenced it before.

The Thursday Murder Club is streaming on Netflix now. This Morning airs weekdays on ITV1.
