Richard Osman revealed a new detail about the upcoming stage show based on his novel, *The Thursday Murder Club*.
In Osman’s 2020 novel, four residents of the Cooper’s Chase retirement village – Elizabeth, Ron, Joyce, and Ibrahim – become an unlikely detective squad when a local property developer is murdered.
Following Netflix’s movie adaptation, a stage play based on the book was announced in May 2024. Author Richard Osman revealed he’s collaborating with Tom Basden to write the script.
What to Read Next
More than a year after the book’s release and a few weeks after the film came out, author Richard Osman has given an update on the stage adaptation. He told *The Times* that the play will feature a new storyline, different from the one in the novels.
The movie version of the story quickly became a hit on Netflix, reaching the top of their charts globally. However, reviews from critics and fans were somewhat divided, while the stage show is still new and developing.

In a recent interview with Digital Spy, actor Pierce Brosnan, who plays Ron Ritchie in the upcoming film, said he quickly connected with his fellow cast members Helen Mirren, Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie.
Everything just came together naturally. The four of us – Helen, Ben, Celia, and myself – didn’t need to talk things over, nor did we consult with the director, Chris Columbus. We simply read the script and instinctively understood our roles, according to Brosnan.
It felt right from the very beginning. There was a genuine respect and friendly spirit among us, almost like being in a theater troupe. Every day brought new people to work with, and it was simply a pleasure to experience.

The actor, famous for playing James Bond and appearing in the *Mamma Mia!* movies, shared that director Christopher Columbus asked him to grow a beard before they started filming. He understood Columbus’s reasoning behind the request.
Honestly, I was completely captivated by this character. He wasn’t just a strong guy, but a really good person – someone who genuinely cared about others and fought for what was right, almost like a social worker. The writing was just so beautiful and real, I felt like all I had to do was trust the script and let it guide me.
The Thursday Murder Club is streaming on Netflix now.
