Richard Hammond is seen for the first time since announcing split from wife Mindy after 28-year marriage as he drives to Hereford workshop

For the first time since revealing their separation, Richard Hammond was spotted in public with his wife Mindy.

The Top Gear star, 55, confirmed the end of their 28-year marriage on Thursday.

On the morning of Saturday, it was noticed that Richard emerged from hiding while en route to his workshop in Hereford, traveling in a black Ford vehicle.

He bundled up in a padded coat as he braved the cold weather alongside a male friend. 

It’s said that Richard resides temporarily at a leased dwelling in a neighboring hamlet, where he operates his small-scale car renovation workshop named ‘Smallest Cog’.

Previously, it was believed that he spent his nights in a barn that had been transformed into a dwelling, located within the grounds of his family’s castle.

As a devoted admirer following news about them, I’ve learned that, according to The Sun, Mindy seems determined to finalize the acquisition of Bollitree Castle – the stunning £7million estate situated in Weston under Penyard, Herefordshire, which they purchased back in 2008.

This 18th-century building, which is on the list of Grade II properties, boasts six bedrooms, a private swimming pool, and spans over 20 acres of land.

In their family setup, it is Isabella, their oldest child at 24 years old, who resides on the estate, working alongside her father. Meanwhile, their second-born daughter, Willow (age 22), dwells in Gloucestershire.

After Richard was spotted at a Hereford pub on New Year’s Eve, sipping a pint of Guinness without his wife present.

During their visit to the Wye Inn, located on Holme Lacy Road, the host of The Grand Tour seemed delighted to snap photos with enthusiastic fans. However, passersby couldn’t help but notice that he appeared to be absent from his family during this outing.

Eight years prior to their public announcement of divorce, it’s been reported that Mindy had given Richard a final warning, implying he was at his last opportunity to correct things. However, it appears they’ve since gone through with the divorce proceedings.

Based on the report, she requested a divorce following allegations that she wanted him out.

According to a source, Richard appears deeply troubled by the current situation. Efforts have been made on his part to revive the relationship, but so far, these attempts have been unsuccessful. It’s important to note that there’s no indication of any outside party being involved in this matter.

On a Thursday, the notable figure from Top Gear disclosed that he and his long-term partner are no longer married following 23 years together. In a declaration, they expressed their hope to remain significant parts of one another’s life.

In the year 2017, Mindy joined Richard on the show “This Morning” following his involvement in a second severe car accident.

While shooting for The Grand Tour in Switzerland, Richard’s vehicle experienced a devastating rollover accident multiple times, then ignited shortly afterward. Remarkably, he had just managed to get out of the car before this happened.

In the year 2006, Richard endured critical head trauma and fell into a coma due to a severe car accident while shooting for the BBC’s Top Gear.

After experiencing a car accident on a Swiss hillside 11 years since his previous one, Mindy hurried to be by her husband’s side. Addressing ITV’s This Morning, she stated, “As I said, three chances and that’s it. You’ve had two opportunities.

In this scenario, Isabella, the daughter, was operating the camera alongside her younger sibling Willow. At one point, Willow urged their father not to have another accident by saying, “Could you please avoid crashing again, Dad?

She added: ‘He has one of these every ten years so I’ve marked the next one in my diary’.

Mindy said she had predicted the crash after having a ‘funny’ feeling on the day before the crash.

She said: ‘I actually called Richard on the day before which I don’t usually do, ever.

‘Then the day of the accident I call him and he said he was fine but had a couple more runs to do.

Later, there was a phone call and he mentioned: ‘I’ve been in a minor accident.’ This really caught me off guard, as I’ve never reacted like that before.

The star underwent reconstructive surgery on his broken left knee, lucky to do so mere seconds after he managed to flee from the wreckage before it burst into flames.

Richard has frequently expressed his apologies to his wife and two girls, acknowledging that he subjected them to unnecessary distress.

He said that he believed he might die when his car flew off the mountain.

He stated that he recognized it as ‘unfavorable’, further explaining: Upon landing, the car struck the lower part of my kneecap.

While he was in the hospital, he shared, “They informed me I’ve decreased by 7mm in height. I can’t accept I’m shrinking by that much.

Previously on “This Morning”, host Holly Willoughby inquired, “Are you lopsided then?”, to which he responded, “Indeed, I am. No, I can’t keep going around and around for the remainder of my life.

The impact occurred over a decade since Richard’s prior terrifying car accident in 2006. During that incident, he rolled a vehicle while going at an astonishing 318mph, which was part of his work on Top Gear. The crash resulted in a two-week coma for him due to severe head injuries, putting his life at risk.

Previously, Richard mentioned that on the final drive of the day, as he neared the finish line while in the Rimac Concept One electric car, he lost control and ended up going over an edge.

He quickly sped downhill for approximately 100 meters, barely missing a house and causing small indentations on the cliffside.

In his conversation with DriveTribe, he mentioned that since it was a hillclimb event and he was at the end of it, he understood that he would reach the peak of the hill.

‘So what followed was getting down the hill very very quickly.

I realized that I was elevated, clearly sensing the imminent descent due to my lofty position. In that instant, an overwhelming fear struck me – ‘Oh no, I might not make it through this.’

‘Also I was aware that the car was taking just such a beating.’

He added: ‘What was probably going through my mind was ‘well this is it’. I thought ‘I’ve had it’.’

Richard stated that he remained alert throughout the accident, likening his experience to ‘feeling like you’re inside a tumbling dryer filled with bricks as it rolls down a slope’, or more simply, ‘he felt like he was being shaken in a tumble dryer full of heavy objects during the crash’.

After the collision, he sustained a knee injury, and mentioned, “I recall telling you to pull me by my arms instead of my legs since I suspect I’ve fractured that leg.

Yet, his daughter Isabella remained unconcerned by the injury, instead she remarked: “It seems like you tripped on the playground, Daddy.” He replied.

Previously, Mindy mentioned in a newspaper article that during their entire marriage, she and Richard took just two short vacations together.

2017 saw her contribute an article to The Daily Express, where she shared that during our 28-year partnership, we’ve only managed two ‘romantic getaways’: the first was in the early days when we camped in Buttermere and awoke to damp bottoms and four inches of water; the second was a brief visit to Rome a couple of years ago, which left us both so drained that we fell asleep after lunch, thereby missing out on most of our sightseeing opportunities.

Richard posted an update about his changed marital situation on X, saying: ‘Here’s some news from our household; this past holiday season found us as a united family, and although the structure may change this year, we remain a family at heart.’

After 28 memorable years as a married couple, it appears our union is reaching its conclusion. However, these years have been filled with wonder, and we’ve raised two outstanding daughters together.

My co-stars Jeremy Clarkson and James May were left in a state of terror, fearing the worst, thinking I might not make it.

The presenter was in a coma for two weeks following the 288mph accident, but made a full recovery.

Richard also recently raised fears that his injuries might have caused onset dementia.

That suggests I might require an MRI scan, although at my age, some memory lapses are common – often referred to as “misplacing keys” syndrome.

I tend to be rather absent-minded, often preoccupied with different thoughts. As a result, I occasionally overlook things or forget them. This is simply my nature, it’s part of who I am.

Following the accident where his Vampire jet vehicle overturned due to a blown tire, he confessed that he had been dealing with depression.

He mentioned that he couldn’t remember due to a frontal lobe hemorrhage. He was only managing to slow down by hitting his head, which is not beneficial.

He mentioned that Mindy, his wife, had been informed by the medical professionals that there could be an increased likelihood of me developing tendencies towards obsessive-compulsive behavior, depression, and paranoia due to a frontal brain lobe injury.

Mindy asked, “Were you not acquainted with him prior to the accident?” This statement has a humorous tone, and it seems like she endured some difficulties as a result, although she did experience them to some extent.

‘Some of them were really weird moments and I still get an echo of it.

For an extended period, I was confined in hospitals, undergoing recovery, and it seems like I frequently visited London to engage in some activities.

Instead of standing before the wardrobe, overwhelmed by the array of shirts and struggling to decide for an extended period, let me rephrase it this way: ‘I’d often find myself staring at my wardrobe filled with shirts, unable to pick one for quite some time due to the sheer number of options.’

He added: ‘If your emotions seem disrupted or affected due to a chemical imbalance in the brain, remember it’s simply a matter of chemistry and electrical signals.’

As I strolled along my home’s driveway, a sudden, profound feeling of affection swelled up within me, spreading from my heart. I found myself wondering, “What’s causing this?

Over time, I stumbled upon a familiar sight that sent a rush of nostalgia through me – my cherished old Land Rover. Though I’ve always admitted to having a soft spot for it, there was something about seeing it again that simply took my breath away. It stirred thoughts within me, and in that moment, I exclaimed, “Blasted heck!” It made me reflect on the good times we shared together.

If it turns out that simple chemical and electrical interactions within my brain could have such a deep impact on my emotions, then I must pay closer attention to the subtleties around me.

When I’m extremely fatigued or after a lively night with friends, I tend not to heed my feelings too carefully.

If I drink red wine, I won’t be tuning in to consider my thoughts on any topic that day. That’s just how it goes according to the rules.

For some time, I felt quite irritable, as it turns out, anger can pose challenges during recovery from a brain injury. I found myself yearning for a T-shirt with the message, “I’m Doing Fine, Leave Me Alone,” on the front, and “I’m Still Struggling, You Know” on the back.
