Richard E Grant shows off his vast collection of trinkets at his west London home after filling the Georgian property with nik-naks documenting his film career

He’s one of the UK’s most respected actors with an illustrious film career to match.

Oh my gosh, you guys, Richard E. Grant just posted the most amazing video on Instagram! He showed off all the little souvenirs and treasures he’s collected over his entire career – seriously, it’s a lifetime of amazing moments captured in little objects! I’m completely obsessed with seeing everything he’s kept. It’s just… chef’s kiss.

The 68-year-old actor showed off his beautifully decorated west London home, revealing his festive Christmas decorations and charming ornaments in preparation for welcoming guests this holiday season.

In his video, the room was completely filled with festive decorations – not just a Christmas tree, but also photos, ornaments, and colourful hangings in every available space.

Richard had mentioned the house, originally constructed in 1840, started as a Georgian rectory. He’d also previously shared photos of the spectacular Christmas decorations on the grounds.

The living room featured sofas with a paisley pattern and cushions with intricate embroidery. Richard then showed off the dining table, which he had carefully set for dinner with his American guests.

He shared a post expressing how much he enjoys the feeling right before guests arrive for a party – with candles and a fire glowing, drinks prepared, and food ready to go. He was especially happy to be having a pre-Christmas meal with American friends who were leaving soon.

Okay, so Richard just had to show everyone his Christmas decorations, and honestly, they were insane! His house in West London was completely transformed – it was like a winter wonderland, and I’m absolutely obsessed. I’ve been following him for ages, and this just proves he has the best taste – everything was so lavish and over-the-top, it was perfect!

The actor previously revealed he sold his vacation home on the French Riviera because it was too difficult to revisit after his wife, Joan Washington, passed away in 2021.

I recently shared a peek at my Christmas tree, and then showed everyone the beautiful ornaments I’ve been displaying in my garden. They actually came from a festive setup Jo Malone did previously – I just loved them and had to bring them home!

The actor’s London house showcases cherished mementos from his life with his wife, Joan. It’s filled with antiques, historical objects, artwork, and keepsakes from his many films.

He decorated his home with twinkling lights, and his back door was covered in large star decorations. Inside, the house was filled with festive ornaments.

I was so saddened to hear that Richard is selling his holiday home in France. It was a place he and his beloved wife, Joan, shared for so many happy years, but he explained it’s just too difficult for him to go back there now after losing her. It’s understandable, of course, but still incredibly heartbreaking.

In an article for The Times, Richard shared that he’s been unable to revisit the farmhouse in Provence that he and his late wife, Jane, had lovingly restored together.

Soon after their daughter Olivia was born, the couple renovated the old farmhouse and spent the next 33 summers there as a family.

The holiday home didn’t feel right without his wife, who had passed away, so he sadly decided to sell it.

After Joan passed away, he attempted to return to Provence by himself, but it was too emotionally difficult. Sadly, he had to sell the house.

Richard fondly remembered happy times at home, including swimming, playing badminton, and cooking. He also recalled enjoying black truffle baguettes from La Petite Maison, a bakery Elton John first introduced him to.

I was really touched reading Richard’s recent interview with The Sunday Times Culture Magazine. He was so honest about still grieving for Joan, and he actually said he hasn’t given any thought to finding someone new since she passed away. It just shows how deeply he loved her.

He admitted the thought of being nearly 68 and undressing in public was deeply embarrassing, to the point where he’d rather be completely isolated, like hidden in a dark cave on a volcanic island.

‘That may change. I’m hopeful-minded and open-hearted but I’m not looking for it.’

Richard explained that he doesn’t feel lonely because he’s close to his daughter Olivia and her husband, and they all live together.

The experienced actor had mentioned before that his wife, who he described as funny, used to playfully prevent him from dating other women before her passing.

Joan, a talented dialect coach, sadly died in September 2021 at the age of 74, following an eight-month battle with lung cancer.

The Withnail And I star has been extremely candid about his grief in the years since Joan’s death.

Richard has also previously shared what made him realise his late wife really loved him.

On The Lulu Podcast: Turning Points, Richard shared a funny story about Joan. He said that just a month before she passed away, she playfully ‘vetoed’ all the single, divorced, widowed, or otherwise available women he knew, giving him a reason why he shouldn’t date any of them – acting, he described, ‘like a lioness’.

‘And I knew how much she loved me by doing that…’ he added.

I was so excited to tell my friend Joan about finally meeting Barbra Streisand – a dream come true! I remember sharing all the details with her afterwards, and she was thrilled for me.

Richard recounted a surprising conversation he had with a woman he admired. After returning to London, he said she – despite being 79 years old at the time – bluntly asked him if he’d still be attracted to her if she wasn’t married to James Brolin.

I told her she already knew the answer. She replied, playfully, that she had me and I wasn’t going anywhere.

Richard doesn’t expect to fall in love again, but he’s open to the possibility. He isn’t actively looking, though – you won’t find him on any dating apps.

‘I feel fulfilled and sustained without feeling like I’ve lost my better half, which I have.’

The actor also revealed he is still so in love with his late wife that he emails her each night.

Richard admitted he doesn’t believe she’s listening, or that he’ll get a reply, but he continues to talk to her anyway, feeling it maintains some kind of link between them.

I find myself writing to her still – things like, “Dear J, you would have gotten a kick out of today…” It’s funny, but it genuinely feels like she’s still here, like we’re just continuing our conversation, even now.
