Richard Ashcroft hilariously pokes fun at viral Oasis fan caught using Shazam to identify Bitter Sweet Symphony
On a humorous note, Richard Ashcroft sparked roars of laughter among the Heaton Park audience on Friday, as he playfully referred to the viral video of an Oasis enthusiast failing to recognize one of his most renowned songs.
As the lead singer of The Verve, a 53-year-old artist, he has been performing as an opener for Liam and Noel Gallagher during their highly anticipated comeback tour, receiving outstanding praise each night.
Yet, during the band’s debut performance at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff last month, a single fan was taken by surprise as The Verve initiated their timeless hit, Bitter Sweet Symphony, while the crowd of 75,000 joined in the singing.
In a TikTok video, someone at the concert was spotted using the Shazam app in an attempt to recognize the iconic 1997 song, a tune that Rolling Stone ranked among the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
The video’s title read: ‘Picture yourself unaware of the best song ever made’, and it swiftly gained popularity across the internet, sparking anger among Verve enthusiasts who felt disrespected by the comment and claiming that the fan didn’t merit the ticket.
‘They were furious, exclaiming, “Can you believe it? These people took our tickets!”‘ or simply, ‘Their anger was clear when they said, “These people stole our tickets!”‘
1. ‘If you haven’t heard of Bittersweet Symphony, our friendship might not work out.’
2. ‘From genuine 90’s enthusiasts, it was impossible to secure tickets for some events.’

Richard Ashcroft jokes about fan who Shazamed ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ at Oasis’ Cardiff gig

I didn’t lose my tickets to that event because someone Shazamed a Britpop-era hit song; I lost them to this person.
However, it’s clear that Richard found humor in the situation when he playfully mocked the clip during his opening act for Oasis in Manchester, their hometown, on Friday.
As he started playing the well-known melody, he jokingly called out, “Ready your Shazam devices!”, causing a wave of amusement to sweep across the audience.
In quick succession, clips of the incident became popular on social platforms, and someone posted on Twitter: “Richard Ashcroft urging people to identify ‘Bittersweet Symphony’ could be the most amusing thing I’ve witnessed today.
After the audience was left spellbound by Oasis’ reunion, they put on a powerful performance that pulsed with energy and a dash of nostalgia.
Expressing their thoughts on social platforms, numerous individuals hailed it as “the best rock n’ roll performance ever” while expressing appreciation for the “historic” event.
As a fervent admirer, I can hardly contain my excitement! Liam is simply sounding magnificent! It’s as if Oasis have risen from the ashes. This comeback is beyond compare, even surpassing the anticipation of Jesus’ return!
‘I died and ascended to a new plane’;

Contemplate a world where you’ve never heard the most remarkable song ever composed, perhaps it’s Richard Ashcroft’s “Bittersweet Symphony,” a classic that resonates with the spirit of Oasis. This could be part of a story unfolding in 2025 when Oasis might reunite for a live performance in Cardiff. If you stumble upon this song by chance, say through Shazam, it would undoubtedly enhance your appreciation for the magic of live music.

Four months ago, the arrival of my daughter marked the best day I’ve ever lived. Tonight, I experienced the second most memorable evening of my life, watching Oasis with my father and brothers. Witnessing this concert means everything to me; it truly was an extraordinary night! #Oasis #oasiscardiff
‘Goosebumps. That was epic!!! #oasiscardiff #OASISLIVE2025’;
‘Timeless. Absolutely f*****g incredible. You HAVE to go see them. Oasis are BACK’;
If you believe you’ve witnessed all there is to see, I assure you there’s still much more to discover – that is, if you weren’t present tonight for the second round of @oasis and @liamgallagher’s Rock n Roll performance. It was simply amazing! #Oasis #oasiscardiff #OASISLIVE2025
‘What a performance that was tonight #Oasis #oasiscardiff #OASISLIVE2025’;
‘Greatest rock n roll show of all time #Oasis #OasisLive25’;
Instead of merely reuniting, Oasis truly made amends. It wasn’t solely about reminiscing; it was about a fresh start. #oasislive25
Oasis didn’t simply get back together – they restored their reputation. It wasn’t just a trip down memory lane, but a new beginning. #oasislive25
‘Those who didn’t secure Oasis tickets and told themselves the concert wouldn’t be great are currently very upset… and it’s understandable. Massively disappointed. Just, incredibly so. #oasislive25’
For those holding tickets for the #oasislive25 event, get ready for a phenomenal experience! I’ve rarely witnessed them performing with such energy and skill, one hit after another. Can’t wait for the show at Heaton Park this coming Saturday!

To begin the performance, Liam and Noel strolled onto the stage with affectionate embraces, showcasing a heartwarming bond. They then looked out at the audience, who responded with thunderous applause that echoed loudly.
On a bustling Friday crowd, Liam casually remarked, “Feels like Manchester here,” and then started the performance with Hello, launching into the first song from their 1995 hit album, ‘What’s The Story (Morning Glory)’.
After that, they proceeded to play a track titled Acquiesce, hailing from their debut album released in 1995. This was preceded by the well-known and title track of their second studio album, Morning Glory.
Liam shouted out: ‘Yes beautiful people! It’s been too long.’
He then ordered the crowd to ‘turn around and bounce’ ahead of Cigarettes and Alcohol.
Following the performances of Some Might Say, Bring It On Down, and Fade Away, Liam took a break, meanwhile, Noel played an acoustic rendition of Talk Tonight.
Later, Noel seemed moved while performing Half The World Away, pausing his singing momentarily for several bars during the performance.
‘Given the £40,000 you spent on the ticket, was it worth it?’
At their Wembley shows, the starting price for seated tickets was intended to be £74.25, while the priciest ticket was a pre-show party ticket costing £506.25.

As I watched the progression of images unfold on the screen, heartwarming snapshots of my beloved family’s home in Manchester were displayed alongside precious baby photos of my cherished brothers and me.
Periodically, vintage black-and-white photos of their mother Peggy and father Tommy were interspersed with the playing of Stand By Me, adding a personal touch to the display.
At the end of the performance, the siblings concluded by playing Rock n Roll, yet the audience clamored for more, leading the duo to return for an encore. They had two well-loved songs remaining on their setlist.

The show ended with a Rock n Roll number from the brothers, but the crowd demanded more, so they reappeared on stage, ready to perform two of their most popular hits that were left in their playlist.
As the crowd erupted with excitement, they sang Wonderwall, which left the brothers quite emotional as they prepared to conclude the performance.
‘Thanks for putting up with us over the years. We’re hard work. We get it,’ Liam gushed.
They then rounded off their first gig in 16 years with legendary track Champagne Supernova.
