Richard Armitage has become known for starring in TV adaptations of Harlan Coben’s novels, but he’s now taking on a different crime drama. This new series will air on ITV, not Netflix.
This winter, the actor known for roles in Fool Me Once, Missing You, and The Stranger will portray Dr. Ethan Winter, a brilliant and somewhat unusual forensic pathologist considered to be the best in his profession.
He frequently works with Detective Inspector Lauren Bell, portrayed by Annabel Scholey (known from season 2 of The Couple Next Door), who is known for being detail-oriented and straightforward. Together, they form a very strong and effective partnership.
What to Read Next
Their alliance will face a serious challenge when someone Winter cares about is killed, and he decides to investigate the murder himself, outside of official channels.
This six-episode show, adapted from the French series Balthazar, features a complete story within each episode.

Richard Armitage praised the team who created Winter, calling them the best around. He also said that the writing by David Allison is bold and innovative, and promises a fresh take on a familiar genre.
Ethan Winter is a fascinating character – he’s a dedicated worker but also takes big risks. He’s haunted by a difficult past and seems to be constantly pushing his own limits. I’m excited to be back with ITV.
Scholey expressed excitement about joining ITV and Eagle Eye Drama for the Winter project, and collaborating with Richard Armitage on the show’s excellent scripts.
The complicated and exciting connection between the characters will be a lot of fun to show, and I’m really looking forward to playing the witty and sarcastic DI Lauren Bell.

The creators of Eagle Eye Drama, Jo McGrath and Walter Iuzzolino, are aiming for a unique and visually distinct style for the series, which promises to be interesting.
Filming for the series will take place in Bristol and Belgium next year.
You can watch Winter on ITV and STV, and stream it on ITVX and STV Player. In the US, it will be available through PBS Masterpiece.
The latest issue of Living Legends is now available, and it’s dedicated to the incredible Dolly Parton! You can find “Dolly at 80” at newsagents and online for only £8.99.
