Rich Homie Quan Died From an Accidental Drug Overdose: Medical Examiner

As a movie lover who has lived through the golden era of hip-hop, I find the news of Rich Homie Quan’s untimely demise deeply saddening. His music was a significant part of my playlist back in the mid-2010s, and his hits like “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” and “Type of Way” will forever echo in the halls of my memory.

In Atlanta, it was officially confirmed by the medical examiner’s office that rapper Rich Homie Quan passed away due to an unintentional drug overdose.

On Wednesday, a representative from the Fulton County Medical Examiner‘s Office confirmed that the cause of death for the hip-hop artist, known as Dequantes Devontay Lamar, was due to an overdose involving drugs like fentanyl, alprazolam, codeine, and promethazine.

When Quan’s body was discovered, there were no indications of injury or distress. His brother informed the police that he believed Quan was asleep on the floor near the kitchen, before carrying the rapper and placing him on the couch. He found it highly unusual to see food still in Quan’s mouth.

Later in the morning, a woman dialed the police after she observed that Quan’s body was chilly and he wasn’t showing any signs of breath.

33-year-old Quan, who passed away at an Atlanta hospital on September 5, was one of the most prominent figures in hip-hop during the mid-2010s. He garnered widespread popularity through his rap hits “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” and “Type of Way.” These tracks achieved such success that numerous other rappers wanted to collaborate on remixes, with Jeezy and Meek Mill among them.

In collaboration, Quan made an appearance on a YG track alongside Jeezy. Together, they released the song “Lifestyle,” which was produced by London on da Track and distributed by their hip-hop group known as Rich Gang, comprising of Young Thug and Birdman.

Quan responded with “Flex (Oh, Oh, Oh),” a track produced by DJ Spinz and Nitti Beatz that he released as a solo single. This song reached No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, marking his highest solo placement. Additionally, he was featured in Lil Dicky’s popular hit “$ave Dat Money.

2018 marked the release of Quan’s initial and solitary studio album titled “Rich in Spirit,” which predominantly lacked collaborations, save for “Think About It,” a collaboration track featuring Rick Ross.
