Angie Katsanevas, a star on “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City,” and her husband, Shawn Trujillo, are getting divorced.
Page Six reports that the couple has split after 27 years of marriage. Rumors about infidelity, specifically involving multiple men, have circulated for years – beginning during season four of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” and continuing into season five. The situation unfolded both on and off camera.
The former couple denied the rumors repeatedly.
In a 2023 interview on the “Behind the Velvet Rope Podcast,” Robert Trujillo dismissed the rumors as “pretty ridiculous.” Later that year, during an appearance with his husband on “Watch What Happens Live” with Andy Cohen, Trujillo explained that what bothered him wasn’t the speculation about his sexuality, but the suggestion that he had been unfaithful.
According to Trujillo, this issue isn’t about sexual orientation; it’s about cheating. They strongly support the LGBTQ+ community and have been a part of it for three decades through their work.
“I’m here to support Angie, and I’ll take the hits,” he added.
Katsanevas observed that Salt Lake City had changed significantly, and while it might have been typical to make assumptions about a man’s profession as a hairdresser fifteen years ago, there were never any rumors about her marriage being unfaithful, either in Salt Lake City or elsewhere.
The couple got married the same year they started Lunatic Fringe Salon in 1999. Together, they grew the salon into a thriving franchise with locations throughout Utah, Idaho, and Ohio, and their original salon remains in Salt Lake City.
Just last January, Katsanevas publicly praised Trujillo during an appearance on “The Viall Files” podcast. She shared with hosts Nick and Natalie Viall that she first met Trujillo over thirty years ago while getting a haircut at a salon.
She described him as strikingly handsome, with a muscular build, long hair, and hoop earrings. He was a bodybuilder who also worked as a hairdresser, which was unusual for straight men at the time. She noted that while it’s common now, it wasn’t back then. She was particularly drawn to his gentle nature; he wasn’t at all boastful, but rather kind, quiet, focused on his work, and a little shy. She really appreciated those qualities in him.
Katsanevas and Trujillo began dating after they started working together at the salon – she was 21, and he was 24. “He’d playfully flirt with me and sneakily hold my hand, and eventually asked me out to dinner on Valentine’s Day,” Katsanevas explained.
As a viewer, and having spoken to the salon owner recently, I learned she really didn’t anticipate the fallout when she joined “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” back in 2021. She admitted being completely blindsided by the attacks directed at her husband, Trujillo, and how much it all would affect her personally. She confessed she truly had no idea what signing on to the show entailed – especially not having decades-long questions raised about her marriage.
Bravo hasn’t said when Season 7 of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” will be on TV, but filming finished in May and it’s likely to premiere this fall. It’s still unclear if the recent breakup between a former couple will be shown on the new season.
Katsanevas and Trujillo did not immediately respond to The Times’ request for comment.
