RHOBH’s Bozoma Saint John undergoes surgery to remove ‘grapefruit-sized’ fibroid after losing home to LA fire
On Tuesday, Bozoma Saint John disclosed that she had surgery to take out a large fibroid, about the size of a grapefruit, as well as several smaller uterine fibroids.
On the After Show, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills actress revealed that she had arranged for a significant medical procedure, aiming to eventually have a child with her partner, Keely Watson.
She shared with Dorit Kemsley on RHOBH that the fibroid surgery felt quite daunting since it’s not something anyone looks forward to having done.
Despite acknowledging that it wasn’t an urgent operation, the businesswoman asserted she opted for it to reassert control over her reproductive wellbeing and as a preventative measure.
She mentioned that during her discussions about fibroids with her doctor, it wasn’t a case where she was told that not having the treatment would lead to a dire outcome. Instead, it wasn’t portrayed as a life-threatening situation where if she didn’t act, something catastrophic would occur.
‘I understand that many women experience significant symptoms from their fibroids. In my case, I didn’t have severe symptoms, but the fibroids were large and growing. It seemed to me that rather than waiting for a time when I might not have a choice, it was best to take action sooner.’
In simpler terms, Uterine fibroids refer to growths inside a woman’s womb that are not cancerous. These growths can cause various symptoms such as heavy and painful periods, discomfort in the lower back, trouble with bowel movements, more frequent urination, and pain during sexual intercourse.
According to the Mayo Clinic, the number, dimensions, and positioning of fibroids can influence a woman’s fertility and potentially impact pregnancy results. These growths called uterine fibroids are usually found in women between their thirties and fifties.
Towards the end of the conversation, the ex-chief marketing officer of Netflix, who is now 47 years old, confessed that she’s focused on expanding her family as she feels the clock is ticking due to her advancing age.
This striking brunette woman has a 15-year-old daughter, Lael Saint John, who she previously shared with her late spouse, Peter Saint John.
In my fervor, I can’t help but ponder aloud: “Given all this, it feels like time is slipping through my fingers. If I find myself engaging in these meaningful discussions with Keely, wouldn’t it be wiser to seize the moment? I firmly believe that we have a chance to expand our family, so why not do it right away?
“Given these fibroids, my chances of becoming pregnant are nonexistent. Yet, I yearn for an opportunity, a try at having a baby. Consequently, I’m left with the decision to pursue that chance.
Upon being questioned about the number of fibroids she had, the celebrity clarified that a total of twelve were taken out from her uterus. She elaborated by explaining that one was as large as a grapefruit.
Just a few days following Bozoma’s startling disclosure, it transpired that her Malibu residence had been destroyed by the Pacific Palisades fire, which is part of the widespread wildfires currently devastating Los Angeles.
In 2021, it’s said that the former executive, who later became a reality star, acquired a house spanning 2,501 square feet for approximately $5.2 million, as reported by Redfin and Traded. Prior to being destroyed by fire, she resided in this home with her daughter Lael.
In a poignant post on Instagram yesterday, I expressed my deep emotions by saying, “This is the home I’ve longed for, the home I’ve earnestly wished for, the home where I’ve toiled day and night, with blood, sweat, and tears.
She mentioned, “I replaced the traditional keyhole on the front door with a keypad, so that everyone in my family and circle of friends could have access to a code and enter the house whenever it was convenient for them.
In simpler terms, the star claimed that this is the residence she discovered tranquility in, following difficult encounters with racist neighbors and a community that required her to purchase it through complex legal means to conceal her identity as a single, widowed African-American woman with a teenager living on an otherwise exclusive beachfront. She referred to it as her ‘I’m here despite you’ house.
She finished her communication: ‘It’s disappeared. This is an indescribable sorrow. I mourn alongside all of Los Angeles as it blazes… and although I struggle to find the right words, there’s nothing I can express at this time that fully captures my emotions. I humbly request your prayers for Lael and me. May God bless you.’
As a die-hard Angelino, I’m shattered to share that over 100,000 fellow city dwellers had no choice but to abandon their homes, while the grim toll has risen to 24 lives lost, as random flames keep erupting across Southern California.
Several well-known figures, along with many others, suffered the loss of their multi-million dollar homes due to the fires. However, it’s important to note that the majority of those impacted by these fires are not celebrities or affluent individuals.
Celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Anthony Hopkins, John Goodman, Miles Teller, Billy Crystal, Mandy Moore, and Jen Atkin are among those who have lost their homes to the relentlessly spreading fire.
