Rhea Ripley vs Nia Jax shows WWE needs to refresh its women’s division
The World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is gearing up for another Saturday Night’s Main Event on January 25, featuring an interesting clash: Nia Jax versus Rhea Ripley for the WWE Women’s World Championship. However, many fans have expressed disappointment as this contest is a repeat of a previous match. Given the depth of the current roster, it appears that WWE has not made enough efforts to introduce new contenders and revitalize the division. This issue needs resolution by 2025.
The WWE has another Saturday Night’s Main Event on January 25 with Nia Jax challenging Rhea Ripley for the Women’s World Championship, but some people think it’s boring because they’ve fought before and there should be more new matches given how many talented women are in the roster. WWE needs to do better by finding more contestants and refreshing the division by 2025.
Despite Nia Jax delivering an entertaining comeback in WWE since her return, fans remain perplexed about her swift transition from one title contention to another. Just three weeks after Tiffany Stratton cashed in on Jax (January 3), Jax is already challenging for the other major championship belt. What’s more intriguing is that she had to switch shows to secure this opportunity, seemingly out of nowhere, effectively departing from SmackDown during the “transfer period.
The portrayal of women’s division on Monday Night Raw seems disappointing given the pool of skilled performers like Iyo Sky, Kairi Sane, Shayna Baszler, Zoey Stark, Zelina Vega, and others. It’s surprising that WWE Creative didn’t utilize these talented individuals for significant matches at SNME. Even Raquel Rodriguez, who has previously defeated Ripley for a title, could have been involved in a match on Saturday. Instead, it appears they reverted to familiar strategies, which some are labeling as a sign of laziness.
Initially, the Ripley equation is at play here. For nearly a year, Ripley and Liv Morgan have been embroiled in a heated dispute. As the two have a long-standing relationship and Rodriguez shares a similar history with them, their conflict revolved around a common man, which left many fans craving for more engaging storylines. Once the angle concluded, there was immediate curiosity about what’s next for Ripley. The response? More of the same scenario.
It’s likely that this upcoming match, happening within a week before the 2025 Royal Rumble, serves as a bridge match for WWE. This contest could potentially reshape the main roster landscape for both SmackDown and Monday Night Raw. There are whispers of significant comebacks and shocking participants joining the fray, which if executed well, could generate immense curiosity about the women’s division’s future.
The match between Rhea Ripley and Nia Jax could be enjoyable. Yet, it’s not surprising that some viewers might sigh, as they’ve seen this pairing before, especially given the abundance of talented women in the WWE Women’s Division.
