Rey Skywalker movie loses writer Steven Knight

As a lifelong Star Wars fan who has seen more than one Death Star blow up on screen, I must confess that the ongoing turmoil surrounding the upcoming Rey Skywalker film is starting to feel like a never-ending battle. It seems as though we’ve got more writers jumping ship than Ewoks in the forest moon of Endor!

Well, this is getting frustrating now, isn’t it?

It appears once more that the script for the forthcoming Rey Skywalker movie has been left by its writer, Steven Knight. According to Variety, director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy remains firmly attached to the project, which stars Daisy Ridley, and isn’t leaving the film.

As a dedicated fan, I’ve got to share some intriguing behind-the-scenes info about the upcoming movie set post-“The Rise of Skywalker.” Initially, Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were tapped for the scriptwriting duties. However, as reported by Variety, Steven Knight stepped in to take over their roles. It seems like this isn’t the first hiccup on the road for this production!

Although the Star Wars project hasn’t started shooting yet, and such delays in creative processes are common, it’s still disheartening to observe numerous announcements of projects that eventually face difficulties, either getting postponed or cancelled. Granted, this is typical for most films, but it’s hard not to feel a sense of fatigue when it comes to Star Wars.

In a world like Star Wars, everything feels more epic. A minor setback during filming can have a significant impact because the franchise holds such a powerful cultural influence. Unfortunately, the history of delays, cancellations, and announcements without follow-through in the Star Wars universe has left fans feeling wary. So, Lucasfilm, where’s the update on the Taika Waititi movie? It seems it might be trapped in the abyss of production limbo forever.

I strongly recommend waiting until production begins before officially revealing details about the upcoming movies such as “Dawn of the Jedi” and the Rey Skywalker-led Jedi Academy film. Unlike “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” which is essentially a movie version of Season 4, these new projects require more preparation and development to ensure they’re done right. Announcing them too early may not be as appealing for investors or events like Star Wars Celebration, but it’s essential for the success of the projects themselves.

But watching your films very publicly got through stuff like this isn’t flashy either.
