Review: The final episodes of The Legend of Vox Machina season 3 prove it’s the best yet

As a longtime fan of fantasy and adventure stories, I must say that the latest episode of The Legend of Vox Machina has truly left me spellbound! The battle between Keyleth and Raishan was nothing short of epic – it had all the elements of a classic hero’s journey: courage, determination, sacrifice, and a dash of humor.

We’ve reached the last three episodes of “The Legend of Vox Machina” season 3. I can hardly contain my excitement and just shout, “Give me more! More! More!” Alas, all good things must come to an end eventually. Let’s dive in and see what awaits us:

The Legend of Vox Machina Episode 310: “To the Ends of the World”

In a state of frustration due to her concerns about Raishan being ignored by the rest of Vox Machina, Keyleth departs. Subsequently, Vex and Vax embark on their mission to eliminate Ripley. This leaves Pike apprehensive as she perceives the group is dispersing. Alongside Grog, she attempts to rouse Scanlan from his coma, questioning if their efforts are ineffective because he’s unwilling to awaken. The sight of Scanlan’s musical notes inspires an idea within Pike’s mind.

In a friendly manner, Pike meets Scanlan’s daughter, Kaylie, and shares with her the melody he composed especially for her. He further reveals his journey to find her. Kaylie encourages Kaylie to visit her father, believing that her presence might inspire him to keep living.

Keyleth returns home and talks with her father about her problems involving Vox Machina. He shares personal stories as guidance, but she remains disheartened. He then reveals an old ritual to find Raishan, though it’s risky. Knowing this, she petitions the Council for approval to perform the ritual. They refuse, but she uncovers information about her mother and why she initially mistrusted Raishan.

Vex and Vax journey to Stilben in search of Ripley. Spotting one of her pepperbox inventions, crafted from Percy’s blueprints, they realize she is close by. Vax encounters a mischievous Tabaxi thug who reveals Ripley’s location to him. Her vessel disperses the pepperboxes along the shoreline under cover of night. The siblings keep tabs on the docks and patiently await the ship’s return.

Years ago, my mother’s words echo in me as I stride back into the Council chambers with resolve. Speaking up, I make it clear that they must heed my voice. With a show of my power, I assert my position as leader and pledge to give everything for the sake of all our people. I push for a vote and triumphantly claim the right to use the ritual. Guided underground to a nexus of magical energy, I learn how to perform the ritual that may take my life.

In Stilben, the ship ultimately moors. Attempting to secretly board, Vex is apprehended. Moments before they could throw her into the water with an anchor attached, a disguised Vax steps in. As he battles the sailors, Vex is accidentally pushed and submerged. Fortunately, Vax’s quick-thinking brother jumps in to rescue her before it’s too late.

The brothers are seen, leading to a fight with even more sailors. Meanwhile, the vessel detaches while Vax is held back. In response, Vex has no choice but to abandon the ship to set Vax free.

Keyleth finds it difficult with the incantation. On her second attempt, she’s enveloped by whirling scenes from various parts of Exandria until she comes to a halt before a specific point in the ley lines. She peers closer, anticipating the appearance of Raishan, but instead, she witnesses Vex and Vax being taken captive on a ship by Ripley.

The Legend of Vox Machina Episode 311: “Deadly Echoes”

Keyleth persists in her struggle to manage the rite aimed at locating Raishan. In an attempt to rescue her, her father intervenes, narrowly avoiding being swallowed by the ground alongside her. However, it’s crucial that she finishes this task independently.

As the earth’s mystical forces of the ritual envelop Keyleth, her father implores her to resist. Yet she can’t shake off their influence. Subsequently, her magic mentor suggests an even riskier path: surrendering to the earth magics and seeking out her personal magical anchor.

Keyleth’s reservations about her skills and doubts as to whether Vox Machina truly valued her talents were eroding her defenses. Her father then called out to her, urging her to seek solace in the one individual who had faith in her. She fixed her gaze on the shadowy figure of Vax and concentrated on him. As she did so, he turned to face her, becoming more distinct in her line of sight.

In a stunning transformation, her once-living form now resembling stone, disintegrates before her father’s and the teacher’s astonished gaze. Yet, she metamorphoses anew, harnessing the hidden energy of ley lines to discern Raishan’s whereabouts. With a swift move, she summons the ancient Ashari tree magic to communicate with Grog and Pike.

In a private setting, Pike escorts Kaylie to Scanlan’s room, finding him unresponsive. Moved by their shared similarities, Kaylie sits by his side on the bed and whispers words of affection to him. This heartfelt exchange was beneficial for both parties.

On Ripley’s vessel, Vex and Vax challenge her for killing Percy. Instead of admitting guilt, she expounds on her viewpoint that he lacked the vision to utilize his abilities to eradicate wickedness from the world. Doesn’t that sum up the mentality of every great villain? They never perceive themselves as being evil. The pair manage to escape their captors, but Ripley vanishes mysteriously to another section of the ship.

Amidst the heated clash, my siblings and I are locked in combat against the crew, a heart-pounding spectacle that has me gripped to my core. Each adversary on this floating fortress unleashes a volley of pepperboxes towards us, adding an extra layer of tension. We deftly evade these projectiles, maintaining our agility and freedom. In a swift maneuver, Vex disarms one of the sailors and dashes to secure her bow. With our tactics divided, Vax and I find ourselves strategically positioned on opposite ends of this vessel, ready for whatever comes next.

He moves swiftly with his swords, leaping from ropes towards the mast. Simultaneously, Ripley seems to vanish and reappear mysteriously around the ship; at one instance, she materializes right in front of Vex, aiming her pepperbox at her own head. Fortunately, Vax steps in to disarm her by throwing his daggers.

In a fit of anger, Ripley seizes her pepperbox, discharging it towards them. The bullets hit the gunpowder kegs on deck, causing them to explode instantly, leading to the ship sinking. Ripley, however, prioritizes her weapons over her crew and carries on battling Vex and Vax. She commands Orthax to sink their vessel, taking their lives with it.

Vex gets hit by a bullet and tossed into the sea. Miraculously, she and Vax cling to debris and drift away. After drifting for some time, they eventually reach the shore and rest to recover. Meanwhile, Kayleth’s message (which was also sent to them) arrives. They then hop on a vehicle and travel to meet Kayleth at the Ashari Council chambers.

Regrouping, the team embarks on a mission to face off against Raishan. Employing magical transportation, they journey through a dense, ominous forest and an ancient ziggurat boasting a luminous green door. Inside the labyrinthine hallways, they discover the chamber where Raishan, now injured, stands in human form. Thordak’s lifeless body dangles from above.

In a face-off, it’s Keyleth who takes on her adversary. They engage in combat, with Keyleth employing her druid spells, while Raishan unleashes the magic stored within the ziggurat against their foes. True to form, being a dragon, she can’t suppress her air of superiority and taunts throughout the fight.

The Legend of Vox Machina Episode 312 “Souls in Darkness”

In an intriguing turn of events during Keyleth’s fight with Raishan, the dragon employs the ziggurat’s magic, causing Keyleth to transform back into her dragon form. After menacingly vowing to destroy every Ashari village, Raishan ominously declares to Keyleth, “I am now the embodiment of death, child.

Initially, Keyleth’s spells find their mark, but they only inflict minor injuries. Then, Grog charges in and lands a punch on Raishan, only to be lifted off the ground and tossed aside carelessly. The rest of Vox Machina then jump into the battle. Vax attempts to fly up against the dragon, but is struck with magic and left suspended helplessly in mid-air. Just when Raishan seems ready to crush Vax with her powerful jaws, Vex fires a shot, disrupting her momentum and releasing Vax from her grip.

Pike confidently moves forward, understanding her protective gear can endure dragon flames. Yet, Raishan’s attack wasn’t actually fire; it was something else entirely, causing an impact so strong that it knocked Pike off balance.

I, as a fan, describe the scene where Raishan propels the ancient runic stones of the ziggurat towards me, constructing a barrier that isolates Keyleth from the rest of Vox Machina. Vex urges me to escape, but I have a strategy up my sleeve. I plead with him to place his trust in me and I conceal myself behind one of the colossal stones for safety.

In a different phrase, Grog amplifies his size and power by employing an appendage that’s reminiscent of his original form. He lands powerful punches on enchanted walls, while Keyleth swiftly dodges the dragon’s breath weapon. She morphs into her druidic tiger shape followed by Ashari form to navigate around magical stones summoned by Raishan from the ziggurat and hurls through the air. Eventually, she is struck by the breath weapon, which propels her backward, ricocheting off stones in its path. Another massive blast obliterates Keyleth, causing Vax to tumble to his knees.

Keyleth emerges from the ground, having applied knowledge gained from previous rituals. She employs her druidic powers to confront the dragon, while Vax fires at it using a gunpowder weapon he acquired from Ripley’s vessel.

In the aftermath of the fierce fight, I find myself weakened and hurt, much like Keyleth. Desperate, Vax appeals to his deity, the Matron of Ravens, seeking her guidance. With a heavy heart, he contemplates if it’s possible to resurrect Percy. However, she sternly warns him not to meddle in such matters.

Pike receives counsel from the demon Zerxus: “At times, it’s wise to act contrary to your god’s desires.” After consulting with his comrades, Vax chooses to disobey the Matron of Ravens. In a show of support, Vex gives him one of her blue feathers from her hair for good fortune.

It appears that Amazon hasn’t disclosed all the details about this season’s finale just yet, which is disappointing for me since it seems engaging, suspenseful, and occasionally delightful. The relationships among the characters are progressively becoming more positive. There are intense battles against Orthax and Raishan, and we find out what happens to Percy. Additionally, there seems to be a hint of something exciting in store for us in the future.

So far, the third installment of “The Legend of Vox Machina” stands out as the most impressive. The narrative is captivating, while the action keeps viewers engaged. Unfortunately, there’s been no word about a fourth season, but we can only cross our fingers and hope for the best!
