Review: LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy is a delightfully creative joyride

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the vast Star Wars universe, I can confidently say that LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy is a delightful addition to the franchise that truly resonates with fans of all ages. This four-part special masterfully combines the charm of LEGO Star Wars with the magic of the galaxy far, far away, making it an absolute must-watch for any diehard fan.

If you’re a die-hard Star Wars enthusiast seeking an exceptional project brimming with humor, memorable references, and laughter that lingers long after, then “LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy” could be exactly what you’ve been searching for.

As a die-hard LEGO Star Wars enthusiast, I can confidently say that Rebuild the Galaxy has managed to encapsulate the enchantment of the Star Wars universe while maintaining its universal appeal across all ages. Whether you’re a casual admirer or a devoted devotee of Star Wars, this four-part special is bound to captivate you. What truly sets it apart, though, are the fresh and innovative aspects that make it stand out among its predecessors.

Four stories unfold the tale of Sig Greebling, an unassuming character known for managing blaster rifles (nerf herding), who inadvertently alters the entire cosmos with a single Jedi artifact. This unexpected event has caused Sig’s understanding of the distant galaxy to crumble — and he will require assistance to reassemble the fragments once more.

Rebuilding the Galaxy offers a distinct chance to incorporate “what if” situations into a Star Wars venture, all while maintaining a fun and engaging atmosphere. The character Darth Jar Jar Binks, originating from an internet fan theory, transforms into a source of laughter rather than discomfort. Even the idea of Maul aligning with the Rebel Alliance is both plausible and amusing.

However, what truly captivates in the story Rebuild the Galaxy is its core essence. In this series, Sig uncovers his role as a “Force Builder,” seemingly able to manufacture anything with the Force. Yet, throughout the special, he learns that heroism isn’t always about appearances. Instead, it’s the inner qualities that truly qualify someone to save the galaxy.

Additionally, this special provided a chance for several stars from Star Wars to re-emerge in their roles. The likes of Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams, Ahmed Best, Kelly Marie Tran, and Same Witwer, among others, contributed their voices to fresh interpretations of their characters, further enriching the production with additional vitality.

In addition to all the other aspects, this special is genuinely amusing at nearly every moment. As with most LEGO specials, the script contains delightful jabs at the franchise’s own history. For instance, Sig confuses Ewoks for Wookiees during story time, Kylo Ren makes another appearance without a shirt on, and Crait is depicted as a planet covered in pepper instead of salt.

These are all references that more poke fun at fan discourse rather than the reference points themselves, and that’s what makes it fun. We’re all in on the jokes, and we’re given both reason and permission to laugh at them (and ourselves).

Prepare yourself by getting some popcorn, setting aside approximately 90 minutes, and make sure you’re in for a good laugh, a touch of nostalgia, and plenty of whimsical and imaginative tales that LEGO Star Wars could weave next.

Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy is available to stream now on Disney+.
