Revenge romance? Newly-single Nina Dobrev gets flirty with Zac Efron one week after Shaun White split

People are speculating that Zac Efron and Nina Dobrev are dating after they were seen enjoying a romantic trip near Italy, where they appeared to be flirting with each other.

Pamela Anderson, 37, and Nina Dobrev, 36, appeared relaxed and happy while spending time with friends on a luxurious yacht. Dobrev recently ended her relationship with Olympic snowboarder Shaun White.

Even though she was heartbroken, Dobrev looked stunning in a black swimsuit with lace and cut-out details, highlighting her fit physique.

Her outfit was bold and revealing, with strategic cutouts and a high cut that showed off her toned body.

Zac Efron showed off his impressive physique while swimming and riding a jet ski.

Chace Crawford, 40, known from Gossip Girl, and his girlfriend, model Kelsey Merritt, 28, were also at the event and were very affectionate with each other.

Rumors of a romantic connection between the two began in November 2024, but they didn’t publicly confirm their relationship on Instagram until July 2025.

Miles Teller, 38, and his wife, Keleigh Sperry, 32, were also on the boat. The group enjoyed the Mediterranean sunshine, drinking cocktails and swimming in the clear water, and everyone seemed to be having a great time.

The couple recently celebrated their  sixth wedding anniversary. 

Sperry shared a collection of photos on Thursday, showcasing their time on a luxurious yacht. The photos included one of Nina Dobrev and Zac Efron.

‘Can Nina and Chase start dating,’ one fan commented underneath the post. 

Another wrote: ‘Nina living that best life.’

Someone else commented that it was wonderful to see Nina surrounded by love and care from her friends and family, and expressed gratitude for everyone looking after her, saying she deserves all the love she gets.

Someone else guessed that Shaun White must have really messed up for everyone to be taking her side.

Before Dobrev started dating White, rumors circulated about a possible romance with Zac Efron, a longtime friend. This speculation began after she made an appearance on his YouTube channel.

In the video, she met him at the gym and they both demonstrated their fitness by doing exercises like planks, sled pushes, and other workouts.

People felt a strong connection between them, particularly when he asked about her favorite item of clothing and she playfully responded with ‘lingerie’.

The recent sighting of Dobrev follows rumors that she and her former fiancé were considering starting a family.

Both individuals desired to have a family, and neither felt more strongly about it than the other, according to a source who spoke with Us Weekly on Wednesday. This clarifies that disagreements over having children weren’t a factor in their situation.

Another source shared with the magazine that the actress was eager to marry Shaun and begin a family with him.

Last week, the longtime couple called it quits, less than a year after announcing their engagement. 

A source told People at the time the decision to part ways was not taken lightly.

According to a source, the couple decided to separate amicably and with continued affection and respect. They still support each other, even though they’re moving forward separately.

White and Dobrev frequently shared moments from their relationship with their fans, including their travels and mutual support for each other’s work.

In January 2024, Dobrev shared that they make time for a weekly date night, taking turns planning the activities.

We take turns planning dates – one week it’s me, and he has no idea what I’ve got planned, so it’s a surprise. Then the next week, he plans something for me, and I’m completely surprised! We’ve been doing this every week for a while now,” she excitedly told People magazine.

Dobrev said these unique moments ‘help keep our relationship fun and engaging, and give us dedicated time to connect with each other.’

She explained that he spent a lot of time traveling the world, seeking out mountains for training both before and during the Olympics.

Throughout most of our relationship, I did the traveling to see him, but that changed during the COVID-19 pandemic when I was unemployed.

In October, she revealed White popped the question by writing: ‘RIP boyfriend, hello fiancé.’

Meanwhile, White took to his social media to proudly declare: ‘She said YES!’

Pictures captured the heartwarming moment when White proposed to Dobrev, getting down on one knee with a stunning five-carat ring designed by Lorraine Schwartz. Dobrev was visibly shocked and covered her mouth in surprise.

After accepting his proposal, they shared a sweet embrace, with Shaun lifting her off her feet.

White went to extraordinary lengths to make the proposal happen.

His earlier attempts to propose didn’t work out, so he finally proposed in late October at The Golden Swan, a restaurant in New York City.

He playfully hid the engagement ring all over the house in the weeks before he proposed, stashing it in places like the tool shed and even the sock drawer.

Dobrev hadn’t been feeling great before the proposal and chose to stay home to rest, as he had a trip to Africa planned soon.

Not giving up, White moved forward with his proposal plans. He had his publicist create a fake invitation to a private dinner with Anna Wintour, hoping to lure Dobrev to the restaurant where he intended to propose.

‘He made the invite look so legitimate,’ she told Vogue at the time.

The actress from The Vampire Diaries even had her hair and makeup done for what she believed was a magazine photoshoot, but it was actually all arranged by White as a surprise.

Dobrev arrived a few minutes late to the event, which caused some concern because she noted that Vogue events usually begin promptly.

‘I was in a panic that Anna was waiting for me,’ she shared.

The restaurant was completely silent when she got there, which made her even more worried about being late.

Once she entered the restaurant, however, White and a photographer were the only people inside.

I was completely stunned. I just stood there, staring, unable to react,” she explained, before adding that she quickly moved into a state of happy disbelief.

Meanwhile, Efron’s last public romance was with Australian model Vanessa Valladares. 

Reports indicate the actor met Valladares in June 2020 through a coworker at the General Store café in Byron Bay, and they quickly connected.

Two months after the initial reports, Daily Mail Australia reported that Zac Efron had cancelled his flight back to Los Angeles, reportedly because he preferred to stay where he was.

Within weeks, the couple had moved in together in Byron Bay.

A few months later, Efron appeared to confirm they were dating when they were seen holding hands in public.

In late 2020 and early 2021, Valladares joined her well-known boyfriend on his work trips across Australia.

News of their split became official in April 2021 when Zac Efron’s friend, Kyle Sandilands, revealed on his radio show that Efron had told him they had broken up.

Before he started dating his current partner, he had relationships with a few of his fellow actors, such as Vanessa Hudgens, Alexandra Daddario, and Lily Collins.

Over the years, he’s admitted that ‘dating is kind of hard.’ 

He described feeling really uncomfortable in awkward situations, admitting it bothered him more than most. He explained that he prefers to be out doing exciting and adventurous things, as he shared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2016.

That same year, he confessed he’s had bad luck with dating apps.
