Returning UK period drama adds Coronation Street stars
As a seasoned gamer of British period dramas, I can wholeheartedly say that the recent return of All Creatures Great and Small on Channel 5 is a delightful addition to my weekly viewing schedule. The upcoming episode 3, titled ‘Homecoming’, promises a fascinating blend of rural veterinary life, soap opera drama, and a touch of nostalgia with the inclusion of three Coronation Street alumni.
In the upcoming episode of “All Creatures Great and Small,” airing on Channel 5, a threesome of actors from the popular soap opera “Coronation Street” will make an appearance.
In tomorrow’s broadcast on Channel 5, Episode 3 of Season 5 is set to unfold under the title ‘Homecoming’. This installment promises a christening, a sick goat, the reappearance of Tristan Farnon, and the return of some well-known faces from the soap opera.
Gabriel Quigley, who portrayed Lynda Aitken, Caz Hammond’s army welfare officer on Corrie in 2016, will appear in Creatures. Here, he takes on the role of Hannah, James Herriot’s mother, known for her forthright nature and some cringe-worthy interactions with daughter-in-law Helen.
Additionally, we have Angela Lonsdale joining the cast, portraying Mrs. Hanley. Previously, she was known for her role as Emma Watts on “Corrie” from 2000 to 2003.
While she was patrolling the Cobbles, the policewoman encountered perilous scenarios and experienced a tumultuous marital journey with Curly.
Finally, the vicar officiating the christening is played by Mark Chatterton.
On his resume under the name Corrie, you’ll find a list of roles he has played: Neville Hawthorn (in 1986, 2005, and 2007), Gordon Blinkhorn from 1992 to 1993, Gerry Burton in 2003, and Barry Morgan in 2019.
In a different part of the Corrie universe, actress Rachel Shenton, who plays Helen, has defended her character’s relationship with vet James against claims it’s dull.
She shared with Radio Times, “It’s not common to encounter such an occurrence,” she said. “Characters stumble and err during the series, which we witness a few times. However, even in their moments of mistake, you can confidently predict that every party will choose what’s right to restore harmony – it’s simply heartwarming and always a breath of fresh air to portray.
She added, “A query I recall from earlier was something similar to ‘Doesn’t it get repetitive, them reuniting all the time?’ However, my response is ‘Absolutely not, quite the contrary.’
All Creatures Great and Small airs new episodes Thursday nights on Channel 5, and streams on My5.
