The new movie, Return to Silent Hill, left some viewers puzzled by its complex ending, but Hannah Emily Anderson believes she understands the film’s message. In a recent interview, she discussed the final scenes, explaining her interpretation of the movie’s ultimately hopeful, though confusing, conclusion.
Hannah Emily Anderson had this to say about Return to Silent Hill ending
The Canadian actress recently shared her opinion that the movie Return to Silent Hill ends on a hopeful note, giving the main character, James Sunderland, a chance to start over.
Hannah Emily Anderson, who describes herself as a romantic, told ScreenRant that she thinks James is ultimately given a fresh start in the psychological horror series.
Return to Silent Hill follows James, played by Jeremy Irvine, as he struggles to cope with the loss of his girlfriend, Mary. His journey is filled with frightening experiences that push him to the brink of despair. Ultimately, overwhelmed by grief, James drives his car, with Mary’s body inside, into Toluca Lake, ending his life.
Instead of facing death, James finds himself back at the beginning of his relationship with Mary. Given a second chance, he resolves to avoid past errors and leaves Silent Hill behind.
Many viewers think the ending of Return to Silent Hill shows James hallucinating a happier outcome as he dies. However, Hannah Emily Anderson has a different interpretation. She believes James actually gets a second chance, arguing that it would have been too devastating for him to relive his past trauma by returning to Silent Hill.
Released on January 23, 2026, “Return to Silent Hill” has received very negative reviews from both critics and viewers. It currently has a score of only 20% on Rotten Tomatoes.
