As a seasoned gamer and horror movie enthusiast who has braved countless haunted houses virtually, I can’t help but feel a shiver of anticipation at the prospect of HGTV’s Scariest House in America. With Retta’s knack for comedic timing and Alison Victoria’s design prowess, this show promises to be a chilling yet entertaining journey through some of America’s most terrifying properties.
HGTV is preparing for the eerie autumn months, much like other broadcasting channels, by unveiling a new season of their hit show, “The Ugliest House in America,” featuring comedian and actress Retta and HGTV designer Alison Victoria as its hosts.
America’s Most Haunting Homes
Most people primarily recognize Retta for her memorable and side-splitting performances as Donna Meagle in the critically acclaimed NBC sitcom “Parks & Recreation” and Ruby Hill in the series “Good Girls.” Since 2022, she’s been the host of five seasons of “Ugliest House in America,” where she’s witnessed a variety of renovation projects gone awry.
It’ll be fun to see her address these creepy houses in the new series, which includes nine homes scattered throughout the Midwest, Northeast, and South, featuring “everything from built-in death traps and questionable taxidermy to daunting basements and ghost sightings.”
As a self-confessed scaredy-cat, I was taken aback by this fresh new show. Admittedly, delving into the haunting dwellings featured in Scariest House in America wasn’t exactly my idea of a good time.
I was cool with the summer road trip and ugly in paradise, but, for a gal that is spooked by every creak, critter and errant hair that brushes my shoulder, this wasn’t it. Glad I got through it, but I won’t lie and say I ‘enjoyed’ it.
The scariest house will get the $150k renovation by Victoria. Both series are produced by Big Fish Entertainment and Ugliest House in America will return with new episodes in 2025.
For those excited about staying updated with special content from the show, head over to HGTV.com or simply follow @HGTV on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Threads, and X (previously known as Twitter). Don’t forget to keep an eye out for the #ScariestHouse hashtag too!
At present, you can catch up on previous episodes of “Ugliest House in America” on Max and Discovery+. Likewise, “Scariest House in America” will become available to stream simultaneously with its TV broadcast on both Max and Discovery+.
HGTV’s Scariest House in America premieres on Friday, Oct. 4, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
