Zack Snyder fans are feeling somewhat hopeful after a new potential buyer for DC has emerged.
Earlier this month, David Ellison of Paramount reportedly offered $20 per share to buy Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of DC Studios. While Warner Bros. Discovery initially rejected the offer, they now appear open to considering similar proposals.
Who is DC’s possible new owner?
I’m hearing from Deadline that Netflix has hired Moelis & Co., a financial firm, to look into possibly making a bid for Warner Bros. It sounds like they’re seriously considering trying to acquire them!
So, it doesn’t seem like Netflix is actually trying to buy Warner Bros. Discovery right now. From what I’m hearing, they’re just exploring whether or not they might want to make an offer in the future. It’s more like they’re checking things out than making a serious bid.
This contradicts statements made earlier this month by Netflix’s co-CEOs, Greg Peters and Ted Sarandos, who were asked about a potential purchase of Warner Bros. Discovery.
Look, as a movie fan, I always appreciate a good build-up, and that’s how it is with real skills too. You can’t just buy your way to being the best – acquiring another studio still learning the ropes isn’t going to cut it. You’ve got to actually do the work, grind it out day after day, and develop those capabilities from the ground up. That’s what really makes a difference.
Sarandos reiterated that they have no plans to buy traditional media companies, stating their position on this hasn’t changed.
The future is uncertain, but fans of Zack Snyder’s DC movies are eager for Netflix to buy Warner Bros. Discovery. They hope this would lead to Netflix reviving Snyder’s vision for a connected DC universe, picking up where “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” left off. With James Gunn and Peter Safran now leading a new DC Universe, many Snyder fans are actively asking Netflix to obtain the rights to Snyder’s previous DC films.
Even if Netflix bought Warner Bros. Discovery, it’s not certain what would happen. Previously, Ellison suggested that a merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. would maintain the creative leadership of both companies, meaning James Gunn and Peter Safran would continue leading DC Studios. However, most people doubt a Netflix acquisition would bring back the Snyderverse.
