Previously resigned Channel Seven weather anchor Liz Cantor has disclosed the actual story behind the widely-shared “From a 7 to a 10” joke.
41-year-old TV presenter announced her unexpected departure from Seven Network on Wednesday, a company she had been with for 17 years. She disclosed that she’s switching sides to join Network 10 instead.
During her exit from the troubled network, there was a report that she made a sharp comment by saying “I was a 7, now I’m a 10.” However, she has since provided further explanation for this statement.
On Thursday, she clarified on Instagram that the well-known joke wasn’t originally hers, yet she remains content to take credit for it, as she jokingly handled the incident.
The remark may have stemmed from comments left on social media by her former Seven colleagues saying she’s ‘always been a 10’, which Liz re-shared and replied to.
Correcting any misunderstandings about that comment, Liz wrote: ‘Actually, that quote about going from a 7 to a 10 wasn’t exactly mine, but I’m more than willing to take credit for it, with a mix of tears and laughter.’ [smiling emoji]
In a different post, Liz expressed her joy about the situation and further shared her eagerness to participate with Sharyn Ghidella on Channel Ten.
Following her announcement of resignation, the folks at Channel Seven complimented her playfully by saying she has always been a “10,” which was a nod to her upcoming move.
Queensland news anchor, Samantha Heathwood, expressed her admiration in a post saying, “Wow! You’ve always been fantastic, but now it’s officially confirmed,” which led Liz to respond humorously with, “Ha! I really appreciate your kind words, thank you.”
In her personal Instagram posts, journalist Amanda Abate expressed: “I’m really going to miss collaborating with her… She was our sunshine. She was always a top-notch colleague, but now it’s confirmed. I love you.”
In just a few days, Liz will start her fresh position at Network 10, where she’ll be delivering the 10 News First Queensland broadcast live from Brisbane, starting on Monday.

On Wednesday, Liz made the following statement: “It’s an honor for me to contribute to the resurgence of local news in Queensland. I’m thrilled about bringing the weather forecast to our neighborhood and engaging more individuals, as well as highlighting fantastic locations.”
“I’m excited for ‘the people’s weather’ to make its home at number 10, and I eagerly anticipate our forthcoming interactions.”
In 2007, I started collaborating with Sharyn Ghidella. While many recognize her as a cool, intelligent, and collected news anchor, I’ve had the pleasure of knowing her as someone with a quick wit, consistently uplifting and supportive towards women in our circle.
‘I’ve always called her the crown straightener… if it’s crooked, she won’t let you go without quietly straightening it for you! That’s the person she is.
“I was truly amazed by her ability to balance motherhood and a job, and that’s an example I often recall when returning to work myself after having kids.”
Sharyn commented on her new teammate for 10 News First Queensland, saying: “What a fantastic new member we have here!”

On Instagram, Liz acknowledged her past coworkers at Channel Seven, expressing gratitude as she concluded her long-standing association with the network, spanning nearly twenty years.
She wanted to make use of the space to express her gratitude, so she took a moment to sincerely thank her colleagues at 7News.
Over the last 17 years, I’ve deeply valued the friendships, adventures, teachings, and personal development we’ve shared as we ran together.
You are simply amazing, a group of diligent, inspiring individuals. I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have been able to spend such a significant and impactful phase of my life alongside each one of you.
The major change occurred a few weeks following Sharyn, aged 57, revealing her new position at Network 10, after her unexpected departure from Seven.
7News terminated the contract of their news presenter based in Queensland last month, following a series of layoffs within the media industry and after 17 years of service.
She later confirmed she will be joining Network 10 to anchor the 5pm Queensland news bulletin.
Sharyn referred to the new job as a “coming full circle” experience, since she is going back to Network 10, where she started her metro news career in 1990.
At Seven, there’s been a significant wave of cost reduction, particularly within their news department, following the arrival of new leadership.
Other notable individuals who will also be featured are experienced professionals such as Robert Ovadia, Andrew Frampton, and longtime Melbourne-based crime journalist Cameron Baud.
