Resident Evil Set Photos Give Fans First Look at Raccoon City

Some new Resident Evil set photos have emerged online.

Zach Cregger, known for his work as a weapons director, is directing a new Resident Evil movie set to be released by Sony Pictures in 2026. The film, based on the popular Capcom video game series, will feature Austin Abrams, Paul Walter Hauser, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Johnno Wilson.

New photos from the set of the upcoming Resident Evil movie have surfaced on Twitter, courtesy of @SilentKatS, offering fans a first glimpse of Raccoon City. Though the photos don’t reveal much about the story, they do suggest the movie will take place during winter.

What else do we know about the new Resident Evil movie?

Director Craig McGregory recently shared with Fangoria that his upcoming Resident Evil film, currently being shot in Prague, won’t be a straightforward retelling of the game’s story.

I’m creating my own narrative, separate from Leon’s established story. I’m not using any of the characters we already know from the games. My story takes place within the world of Resident Evil 2, but it’s independent – you could play the original game without even realizing what’s happening in mine. I’m respecting the established rules of the universe, but I’m focusing on new characters because the games already cover the main ones.

Before directing the 2022 hit Barbarian, Zach Cregger collaborated with Trevor Moore on two films: Miss March (2009) and The Civil War on Drugs (2011). His latest movie, Weapons, came out in US theaters this August and is now streaming on HBO Max. Cregger has announced that he’s currently working on a prequel to Weapons, which will center around the character of Aunt Gladys.

Cregger’s Resident Evil movie will be released in United States theaters on September 18, 2026.
