Following months of rumors and leaks about a fan-favorite character coming back in Resident Evil Requiem, The Game Awards confirmed the news everyone was hoping for. Despite Capcom previously downplaying the possibility, Leon will indeed return in Resident Evil Requiem, and fans have reacted with massive excitement.
Seriously, you can’t even look at a horror game forum or a Resident Evil subreddit without seeing people freaking out about the announcement. Reddit user laxusdreyarligh was one of the first to share the news, and it spread like wildfire after that.
The trailer revealed Leon will be central to both the gameplay and story of Requiem, which explains the enthusiastic reaction from fans – it’s a development many expected, and they’re thrilled to see it confirmed.
Leon Officially Returns In Resident Evil Requiem

The trailer not only confirmed a long-rumored Capcom game, but also showed gameplay that’s a big departure from previous footage of Requiem. Unlike Grace’s style, Leon seems much more action-focused, using moves like spin kicks and a chainsaw to take down enemies while delivering new quips. As Reddit user DoctahDonkey put it, this reveal means things are looking very promising again.
The trailer left some people thinking Leon would only have a small part in Resident Evil Requiem, similar to how Chris was used in Resident Evil 8. But Capcom quickly shared some good news right after The Game Awards.
Leon will likely be a playable character for a significant portion of the game, with roughly the same amount of screen time as Grace. This is similar to how he featured alongside Claire Redfield in the original Resident Evil 2, meaning he won’t just be a brief, combat-focused section.
The Latest Gameplay Has Fans Losing It

The Resident Evil series has evolved significantly over time. There’s a noticeable difference between the action-packed style of Resident Evil 4 Remastered, featuring Leon, and the return to classic survival horror in the first-person perspective of Resident Evil 7 and 8. Having separate protagonists for these different styles seems like a great way to satisfy fans of both approaches.
For months, there have been many unofficial leaks showing what Leon would look like in the new Requiem game. Many players, including PowerPamaja, have said they love the design, and after seeing the official trailer, it’s easy to see why.
Even though Leon is getting older, and the new character Grace is handling the scariest parts of Resident Evil Requiem, we might see familiar faces like Claire or Chris return in the finished game. We’ll find out for sure in February.
