If you enjoy the sci-fi show Pluribus, you’ll likely love Resident Alien. The series stars Alan Tudyk as Harry Vanderspeigle, an alien who crashes in Patience, Colorado. He quickly takes over the identity and life of the town’s actual Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle.

Sent to Earth to wipe out humanity, Harry unexpectedly starts experiencing human feelings as he lives among us. This leads him to question whether his mission is actually right. Similar to the story of Pluribus, the flaws and struggles of humankind are ultimately what’s being examined.

Similar to Pluribus, Resident Alien features a strong being from another world who discovers their power isn’t as absolute as they believed. In both shows, as these aliens are brought down to earth and realize how much they don’t know, humans gain strength and recognize the best qualities within themselves.

Resident Alien Is More Comedic Than Pluribus, But Sci-Fi Fans Should Check Out Both

Though Vince Gilligan’s shows often have dark themes, they’re also known for their humor. Pluribus shares this darkly comedic style, but it’s even more pronounced than in the early seasons of Better Call Saul, which sometimes played like pure comedies. Resident Alien takes the comedy even further.

As a movie and TV lover, I found Pluribus really grabbed me with some surprisingly emotional and dramatic scenes. It also has this weirdly fun, almost mean-spirited vibe that I really enjoyed. Resident Alien is a bit more lighthearted, even though it still has its dark side – I mean, the story starts with the main character dying, after all!

Even though Resident Alien and Pluribus have slightly different styles of humor, they’re similar enough that anyone who likes one will likely enjoy the other. Both shows feature genuine tension, and the lead actors, Tudyk and Seehorn, deliver fantastic performances that make them essential viewing for science fiction fans.
