Renee Zellweger’s boyfriend Ant Anstead liquidates his bespoke car company after claiming business venture was ‘a huge risk’

As a lifestyle expert with years of experience under my belt, I must say that Ant Anstead‘s journey is one that embodies both the thrill and the risk inherent in pursuing one’s dreams. From his humble beginnings renovating cars in a derelict cow shed to co-hosting popular TV shows across the pond, Ant has proven time and again that he’s not afraid to take chances.

Ant Anstead decided to close down his custom car company, acknowledging that it represented a significant risk.

In 2021, the 44-year-old TV host, who has been in a relationship with Renée Zellweger since that year, rejuvenated the classic car dealership Radford Motors alongside F1 racer Jenson Button and automobile designer Mark Stubbs.

Following their encounter on the Master Mechanic set, the three collaborated with the goal of reinventing and designing high-performance vehicles, starting with the Lotus Type 62 as their initial creation.

However, based on records acquired by PEOPLE, it was reported that the company opted for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection this week.

According to the report, the submission was made following allegations of fraud and false representation leveled against him by his partner, Pastor Velasco.

Daniel Bednarski, one of the co-founders, shared: “Radford Motors is undergoing a business reconstruction under Chapter 11, which involves making key adjustments to fortify our base and pave the way for a stronger future.

Throughout this progression, some shifts in ownership might take place, marking a crucial phase in our development. We’re thrilled about the journey that lies ahead and are committed to carrying on with our regular operations, infused with fresh vitality and motivation.

In an interview with PEOPLE last year, Ant expressed that the project they were undertaking was a significant personal risk for him. They had a team of seven, and they were financing it privately. Essentially, they were putting all their resources on the line to make this happen.

2005 saw Ant depart from his role in the police force, following which he dedicated himself to chasing his love for auto restoration, an endeavor inspired by a stabbing incident that occurred during his attempt to arrest a dangerous criminal.

On his personal site, he narrated an incident where he transformed a dilapidated barn belonging to a farmer into a workspace, in exchange for a full year of complimentary rental. From this very structure, he established his successful enterprise.

In the year 2004, when Ant had just tied the knot with his first spouse, Louise, they became parents to their daughter, Amelie.

Ant participated in semi-pro football for 17 years, playing more than 700 games, as a means to finance his startup and care for his growing family.

In the third year, Ant’s business started growing significantly, leading him to leave his farm workshop and assemble a skilled team of automobile craftsmen. This team was tasked with fabricating custom cars and unique artistic masterpieces for Ant.

In a unique niche field, his exceptional skill garnered interest from television broadcasters, leading to an invitation in 2013 to co-host the Channel 4 program “For the Love of Cars” alongside popular British actor Philip Glenister.

He has since hosted 16 different TV shows, broadening out into travel, homes and the arts.   

2017 saw him embark on a journey to the United States, prompted by an invitation to host a segment on The Discovery Channel’s Wheeler Dealers. Remarkably, this opportunity arose due to his friendship with a car dealer based in London, who also happened to be a co-host on the show.
