Renée Zellweger reveals what Bridget Jones scene made her cry: “Maybe I’m crazy.”

In the movie “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” starring Renée Zellweger, there’s a particular scene that left her in tears.

This year, I found myself back in action as the beloved character in the fourth installment of the series. The narrative followed my journey as a widowed mom after the demise of Mark Darcy, played by Colin Firth.

Initially, Bridget stays away from dating, but parts of the movie depict her facing her sorrow directly when Mark appears to her as a vision. Throughout these scenes, she has meaningful conversations with her deceased spouse.

During a movie screening, Renee Zellweger openly shared that working on scenes opposite Colin Firth was the most challenging part of the film production. In turn, Firth acknowledged that these scenes moved Zellweger to tears.

Spotting him [Firth] on the sidewalk, dressed in his Mark Darcy attire with a briefcase and coat, I was unexpectedly moved,” she reminisced, as reported by Variety. “I hadn’t anticipated feeling so emotional about the conclusion of our shared adventure with my friend, realizing, ‘Ah, he’s wrapping up today, and that’s it.’

The reality of it all hit me hard. Can you believe it? Not only do I get to collaborate with my friends, but when I learned the outcome, it seemed almost absurdly meaningful at the time. Perhaps I am sentimental, or perhaps I have grown fond of this fictional character.

2001 saw Zellweger initially embody the character of Bridget, and since then, she has had an exclusive conversation with Digital Spy regarding the role. The actor revealed that through the course of the last twenty years, she picked up some significant insights.

The actor expressed that Bridget truly motivates him, as she genuinely embodies who she is and isn’t overly concerned about self-image. Instead of constantly worrying about her appearance, she’s comfortable being imperfect – even when things don’t always go perfectly, it’s acceptable for her. Similarly, her messiness is accepted, adding to her authenticity.

Despite the occasional imperfections in her plans, she nevertheless emerges victorious, leaving many people inspired. And I must say, I find her incredibly inspiring as well. As Zellweger put it, a large part of her appeal lies in her “likeness to us ordinary folks.
