Remembering Liam Payne's chaotic time in Australia: Singer enjoyed four much-talked about visits Down Under and even considered moving there... before forgetting he had been to the country

As I delve into the captivating tale of Liam Payne, a young man from humble beginnings who rose to international stardom with One Direction, I find myself utterly mesmerized by his journey. The sheer resilience and determination he’s displayed throughout his life is truly inspiring. From his extraordinary X Factor audition at the tender age of 14, to the chaos that ensued during their Australian tour, Liam has experienced it all.

Noted British vocalist Liam Payne tragically passed away at the age of 31, following a fall from his hotel balcony in Argentina.

Reports from Argentine news sources indicate that a well-recognized British vocalist, famously known as a member of One Direction, tumbled off the balcony of his hotel room on the third floor at Casa Sur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I find myself deeply moved by the outpouring of emotion from fans who’ve gathered near the singer’s hotel. They stand united, their faces reflecting shared shock and sorrow, as they light candles in tribute to the star who soared to global acclaim on The X Factor.

At the peak of their popularity as a boy band, One Direction made four trips to Australia, which generated much buzz. In fact, Payne contemplated relocating to that country.

In the year 2012, the band One Direction, comprising members Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik, paid their first visit to Australia. Notably, they were present at the Logies during this trip.

In both 2013 and 2014, they came back to their home country. During these years, they played at the ARIA Awards. They then embarked on one last tour in 2015, just months before the band took a break in January 2016.

In 2018, Payne’s latest visit to Australia seemed to have erased memories of his past journeys there from his mind at that moment, since he asserted he had not been there before.

The world-renowned singer, who admitted that geography wasn’t her forte, made an intriguing remark following her solo act at the Everest horse race in Sydney.

‘I’m sorry the weather has been so bad… I’ve never been to Australia before,’ he told fans.

As a devoted admirer, it’s hard to believe that Australia was just one of many countries Payne seemingly overlooked in his memory. In a live stream, he astonishingly asserted that he had never set foot in the Philippines, yet I vividly recall him gracing the stage in Manila back in 2015.

After receiving criticism from his followers, Payne subsequently apologized, stating: ‘Oh, I’m really sorry! You know, geography has never been my strong suit. It’s hard to believe I overlooked stunning Manila!’

Referring back to the mistake made in 2019, Payne expressed to the London Evening Standard: “My father often teases me that despite traveling the globe, I still don’t recognize what any place looks like.

In 2018, Payne performed solo at The Everest carnival, marking his last Australian appearance. However, prior to that, he had graced Australian stages multiple times as part of One Direction.

Yet, during their Australian tours, the band found themselves amidst some contentious issues and grabbed attention with their opinions on the well-known native fauna.

In 2012, during his visit to a sanctuary in Brisbane, Payne expressed an uncomfortable remark, admitting that he was genuinely frightened when handling a koala due to concerns about contracting chlamydia.

‘This is worrying. I’d have never picked the thing up if I’d known,’ he told The Sun at the time.

In 2013, during the Adelaide stop of their Take Me Home tour, Payne once again grabbed attention when he noticed a group of enthusiastic fans waiting outside the band’s hotel.

He sent a tweet and warned them to keep away from the grass, which he described as a ‘snake habitat’.

‘It’s not worth it someone’s gunna get hurt,’ he wrote.

If spectators didn’t step aside, the agitated performer posted another tweet for clarification: “Don’t you see? This is a snake enclosure. Please turn around.

Previously, during the same tour, he encountered an unpleasant incident involving Australian fans. Some fans disrespectfully invaded the band’s high-end beachfront lodging.

While on their stop in Sydney during the tour, some overenthusiastic fans crossed the line by illegally entering a property and stealing a pair of Payne’s undergarments.

At the given time, a witness informed the Daily Telegraph that they observed six girls and a young boy of eight years leap over a doorway in order to enter Payne’s Palm Beach residence.

She mentioned that what they had taken was Calvin Klein underwear. Initially, they intended to grab a wetsuit as well, but someone else had purchased it within the store.

In 2014, during an interview on Fitzy and Wippa’s NOVA radio show, Liam shared that his most unusual fan encounters led to his least favorable trip to Australia, which he attributed to a burglary incident.

The British celebrity expressed that the encounter shifted his perspective about the nation, which he had previously contemplated purchasing a long-term residence in.

He mentioned that, if things became overly chaotic, his dream place to relocate has always been Australia, which he shared with the hosts Ryan Fitzgerald and Michael Wipfli.

‘But then when we first came to Australia I didn’t it expect it to be as crazy as it was.’

I adore Australia to no end; its atmosphere is simply delightful, so laid-back and relaxed. I find myself drawn to it, but the craziness of it all has become a bit overwhelming for us at the moment,” he concluded.

Payne’s journey towards fame started in 2008, when he gave a remarkably impressive performance during the X-Factor auditions. This memorable appearance has been widely shared on social media following his unfortunate demise.

Fans flocked to YouTube to watch a 14-year-old Payne audition for the UK talent show.

Following his loss in the contest, it was suggested that he wait for two more years before rejoining the reality television program. At the age of 16, he went back to the show.

Later, he found himself in a musical group with his fellow competitors Styles, Malik, Horan, and Tomlinson, forming what eventually grew to be the highly successful boy band known as One Direction – a group that made a significant impact on the history of music.

In 2010, the band experienced a meteoric rise to stardom, capturing the affection of countless enthusiastic teenagers, and managing to sell over 70 million albums globally.
