Remember when Cardi B threw a mic at a fan? She’s being sued for it

The microphone-tossing episode involving Cardi B is once more under discussion, nearly two years since it happened at a show in Las Vegas.

A woman from Ohio has filed a lawsuit against the 32-year-old rapper known as “Bodak Yellow,” alleging incidents of battery, assault, and negligence. Additionally, the proprietors of Drai’s Beachclub and Nightclub, where the alleged incident occurred on July 29, 2023, are also named in the lawsuit for their role in alleged negligence. The lawsuit was submitted before the statute of limitations for such charges expired in Nevada.

At a Las Vegas concert, Cardi B acted out after someone threw their drink at her during the performance. The action resulted in her tossing the microphone towards the audience member involved, an event that’s now gaining wide attention online as videos spread across social media platforms.

In court papers submitted in Clark County on Monday, a person identified as Jane Doe (due to “psychiatric trauma”) claims that during Cardi B’s show, she encouraged the crowd to spray water on her under what appeared to be hot conditions. Initially, she agreed and even sprayed water herself, saying it felt good. However, when Jane Doe participated, Cardi B is said to have suddenly and forcefully tossed her microphone.

The incident involved an object apparently striking Jane Doe, with Cardi B exclaiming, “I said make a splash, not my face, fool!” The situation was reported as an unnecessary intensification leading to inappropriate and disrespectful contact. Although the police investigated the matter at the time, Cardi B was not indicted. On Thursday, Cardi B’s representatives failed to provide a comment to The Times on this issue.

Last weekend, I found myself astonished when I learned that the very same microphone Cardi B flung during her Las Vegas performance had fetched an astounding $99,900 on eBay following a thrilling seven-day bidding war. What a remarkable testament to the allure of pop culture memorabilia!

Approximately a few weeks after it was put up for auction on eBay, the microphone garnered a selling price of $99,000. This artifact plays a significant role in the ongoing case, as Jane Doe alleges the sale aggravated her emotional turmoil. Initially, the sellers informed TMZ that the earnings would be donated to two charities: The Wounded Warrior Project and Friendship Circle Las Vegas, a local organization dedicated to assisting people with special needs.

The person suing is asking for compensation, not exceeding $15,000, due to claimed bodily harm, psychological distress, and damage to their reputation.
