Regular Show Reboot Must Avoid Ruining Pops’ Sacrifice and Series Finale

The animated series Regular Show is making a comeback with a new season, but it’s crucial to handle this reboot sensitively so as not to mar the satisfying conclusion of season 8. It’s no shock that Regular Show is returning, considering Warner Bros. Discovery has been concentrating on its most prominent IPs, which includes hit Cartoon Network shows like Adventure Time and The Amazing World of Gumball. While I’ve always felt that spinoffs or sequels could work for shows like Adventure Time and Gumball, I never thought that a continuation for Regular Show was necessary.

One of Cartoon Network’s most hilarious shows, “Regular Show“, spanned eight seasons and introduced us to a captivating world that was both ordinary and extraordinary. It’s tough to choose a favorite character from the diverse cast of “Regular Show“, as each member of the Park Crew had their time in the spotlight. However, the closing episodes of “Regular Show” centered heavily around Pops, whose hidden past was intertwined with the universe’s beginnings. Following his valiant sacrifice in the final episode of “Regular Show“, I hope the upcoming series does not resurrect Pops.

The Regular Show Reboot Should Not Bring Pops Back To Life

Pops’ Death Was A Great Way To End The Show

If the upcoming continuation of “Regular Show” is a sequel, I’m hoping it won’t reverse Pops’ death. Although “Regular Show” wasn’t the first Cartoon Network series to off a cherished character, the finale, titled “A Regular Epic Final Battle,” was surprisingly mature and poignant in demonstrating that endings can be acceptable. The episode encompassed elements that made “Regular Show” so distinctive for years, including mechas and battles over existence’s fate, while also providing a deeply human perspective on the transience of life.

Over the last two seasons, Pops devoted much effort towards uncovering his genuine lineage. Ultimately, we discovered that a harmony between Pops and Anti-Pops was crucial for the universe’s stability, and each confrontation between them would trigger a reboot of reality. In the climactic moment, rather than engaging in battle with Anti-Pops, Pops embraced him instead, and they were both cast into the sun, thereby halting the cycle and safeguarding everyone.

As a devoted film enthusiast, I can’t help but reflect upon the poignant sequence in “Regular Show” where we witnessed the Park Crew mature, beautifully encapsulated in a heartfelt montage following Pops’ selfless act. Unlike other tales with unexpected twists, his departure was final, and while it may be imaginable that he’s watching over his companions from another realm, his passing was undeniably irreversible.

It’s understandable to consider reviving Pops in the future episodes of “Regular Show,” given the myriad ways such a feat could be accomplished. However, I firmly believe that death carries a significant weight within the “Regular Show” universe, and it should not be taken lightly by bringing back beloved characters like Pops.

Death may hold the power to be overcome in this animated world, but that doesn’t mean our cherished characters should return from the beyond. Instead, let us honor their memories and continue to grow with the remaining cast, allowing them to forge new paths while preserving the legacy left behind by those who have moved on.

There’s Only One Way Pops’ Return In Regular Show Would Make Sense

The New Regular Show Doesn’t Have To Be A Sequel

There’s a possibility to reintroduce Pops into Regular Show without spoiling its final episode. If the new series is indeed titled Regular Show: Lost Tapes, it suggests that this isn’t a direct sequel but rather stories set before the finale events. An anthology-style Regular Show where each episode delves into an unheard-before tale from before their space adventure would be a fantastic method to resurrect the franchise without disrupting the “20 years from now” montage.

It’s intriguing that in its final season, Regular Show seemed to comment on how ratings are crucial for a show and it’s okay for a program to end after a certain number of seasons – even introducing a planet called Nielsen. If Regular Show were to return following the finale making such statements about TV industry trends, it would be somewhat ironic. However, I have faith that Regular Show will manage its comeback effectively, particularly if the new series isn’t a direct sequel but rather an “in-betweenquel” narrative instead.
