Regina King has honored her late son by learning to ‘live in the moment.’
54-year-old actress openly shared that her perspective on living has undergone a significant transformation following the COVID-19 pandemic and the tragic passing of her son, Ian Alexander Jr., who took his own life in January 2022 at the age of 26. This event has left a profound impact on her life.
She expressed that it’s possible to feel both sadness and happiness simultaneously, as shared in her interview with Haute Living Los Angeles for their August/September edition.
Three years following a tragic event, the Academy Award-winning individual detailed adjustments to her lifestyle perspective. In turn, King, mother of their child with ex-spouse Ian Alexander Sr., shared this transformation.
Announcing the passing of Ian Jr, she fondly recalled him as a radiant beacon whose heart held deep concern for the joy of those around him.
Now three years after losing her son, King said, ‘I one thousand percent live in the moment more.’

She mentioned that it’s unclear if this is something that develops naturally over time, through hardship, or due to the pandemic – likely a combination of these factors. However, she expressed that she is experiencing it personally.
In an upcoming movie titled “Caught Stealing,” set to release on August 29, the actress has shared that she is keeping her late partner Ian’s memory alive in multiple ways. One such way is by introducing a new orange wine brand called MianU (which sounds like “me and you”).
Lan was the one who initially shared orange wine with me. His unique and intricate tastes embodied in this wine reflect his knack for turning ordinary experiences into extraordinary ones. On social media, she announced a fresh venture by stating this.
In my passion-fueled journey, crafting a tribute to Lan’s profound affection for art, taste, and his cherished community, I meticulously designed a wine that elevates the essence of shared connections.
‘His art, his creativity — it’s all in there,’ she told the magazine.
I experienced a moment of profound realization, originating from the ongoing process of making memories, in honor of Ian.
Instead, as King observes her friends achieving family milestones, she continues to delight in discussing her own son.

I can’t make new memories like they do, but I’m not dwelling on it.” In this version, the focus is on the subject (the speaker) being unable to create new memories in the same way as others, and also emphasizing that they are not letting this limitation consume their thoughts.
‘This is my way of creating something new, together.’
The Shirley star revealed she is reminded of her son whenever she drinks a glass of MianU.
‘I’m thinking of him 24/7 anyway, but always in this moment, I can see his face,’ she said.
For those who missed dancing with Ian, their curiosity might stir. They may even inquire. His name, prominently displayed, is a constant reminder. He’ll forever live on in our hearts. Whenever I’m around, it’s as if Ian is too.
King’s friends and fans have rallied around her to support this new endeavor.

In response to a promotional video of King enjoying wine with friends on Instagram, director Ava Duvernay expressed, “‘What a wonderful tradition,’ she exclaimed. ‘We admire you, dear sister. Our gratitude goes out to you.’
Tisha Campbell Martin enthusiastically expressed, “I got mine, and it’s a wonderful method to show affection for Ian and pay tribute to him! I adore you both, and I absolutely cherish this!
‘Ian would have loved this,’ wrote WNBA star Lisa Leslie. ‘Just bought my 4pack sis ❤️ U deeply!!!’
A supporter expressed their enthusiasm in the following way: “I don’t usually drink wine, but I’ll stand by your side on this matter, as a mother figure of mine. You’ve always been my favorite since ‘227,’ and I send you lots of love, dear.
