Reggie Sorenson’s Big Brother Scam Confession Shocks I’m A Celebrity

In Tuesday’s episode of “I’m A Celebrity,” Reggie Bird experienced a breakdown while discussing her past, specifically about being deceived shortly after winning “Big Brother” for the first time.

In 2022, the TV personality came back on the program following their victory in the series way back in 2003, and on both occasions, they exited as champions.

In 2003, she walked away with $250,000 and moved to Sydney to seek new career opportunities. 

In the end, an individual pretending to be a TV producer swindled a person aged 50 out of a substantial amount, approximately tens of thousands of dollars.

In that particular show segment, she shared her experience saying, “I traveled to Sydney, hoping to be nearer to the management for more tasks. However, they seemed unresponsive.

‘Then I had to pay a lawyer to get out of the contract.’

Matters took a turn for the worse when a man came up to Reggie, proposing a leading role in a travel show for her.

She mentioned that there was someone who claimed to be a television producer. They filmed a pilot episode, which she believed would become a travel-themed show. However, she discovered later that it was all a sham.

The pilot never happened and the man turned out to be a scammer.  

‘He ripped me off $40,000. I find it hard to trust people now,’ Reggie said, becoming tearful. 

‘People take advantage of you. I’m a very trusting person’ she added.  

Reggie had earlier revealed the harrowing aftermath of winning Big Brother.

Instead of spending the bulk of her $250,000 winnings on her mortgage and divorce settlement with husband Adrian Bird, the previous fish-and-chip shop proprietor residing in Tasmania primarily used these funds for those purposes.

Reggie stated on the podcast that he used up all remaining funds for rent, and got swindled by a deceitful individual claiming to be a television producer.

I believed it was genuine. He claimed he didn’t have any funds and requested a loan of $5,000 followed by another $5,000. Soon, the situation escalated and led to bigger demands.

In addition, the mother of two disclosed that being a famous person brought unwanted attention from stalkers, and finding employment became challenging because people didn’t consider her professional ambitions seriously.

Reggie has become visually impaired due to the diagnosis of a progressive eye disorder known as retinitis pigmentosa.

She has lost 90 per cent of her vision and walks with the aid of a cane.  

In an interview with Woman’s Day, Reggie shared that her vision had improved due to recent advancements in medicine.

Reggie shared with the magazine that her eye specialist informed her there’s a possibility she could regain some vision, thanks to an innovative new treatment.

The doctor explained that the treatment would entail taking out the cataracts that had formed, and should this method not prove successful, he would resort to a technique known as the “piggyback procedure”.

In amazement, I found myself struggling to comprehend when my ophthalmologist hinted at a slim possibility that some of my vision could be restored.

Reggie revealed she was due to have another surgery in the near future.

‘It’s like a fogginess has lifted, is the best way to describe it,’ she explained.

Although it requires some adjustments, we’re making progress. I may not recover my complete vision – and that’s alright – because it simply means I won’t be able to notice the growing number of wrinkles on my face anymore!

At the same time, Lucas, aged 15, battles with cystic fibrosis, a genetic condition that inflicts extensive harm on the lungs, digestive system, and other bodily organs.
