Red Dead Redemption on mobile without a Netflix subscription feels like a heist, with you being the victim

The popular game Red Dead Redemption is now available on mobile devices! Netflix Games has brought Rockstar’s classic Western to both Android and iOS, letting players experience it on their smartphones for the first time.

Since I already pay for Netflix, I immediately downloaded the game and started playing as an outlaw. But for those without a subscription, the process was likely more complicated, and the game probably didn’t explain it very well.

The non-subscribers face a surprisingly high standalone purchase price for Red Dead Redemption

I suggested a game to a friend, hoping he’d like it as much as I do, but he wasn’t impressed. He pointed out he’d have to pay for it, which is a fair point.

I wasn’t willing to give out my password – especially not to someone wanting to share it on Netflix – but I did ask why it was such a big issue. He immediately reacted with disbelief, saying, “Are you crazy?” which surprised me, until I looked at the store listing and understood his reaction.

Red Dead Redemption is now available on Netflix! You can download it and enjoy this critically acclaimed Western adventure whenever and wherever you want.

I noticed a $39.99 price tag for a mobile-only option right under the Netflix logo – a one-time purchase for people who don’t have a subscription. It’s almost forty dollars, but I understand the idea – a single payment instead of a monthly fee.

Compared to the value you get with Netflix, the price feels quite high. It’s even more noticeable when you look at other platforms – Red Dead Redemption is currently available on Steam for just $24.99, which is $15 cheaper than the other option, and it’s on sale right now.

Some players have already found ways to play the game without a subscription by using unofficial files. However, even putting the cost aside, the game is fantastic, and it’s definitely worth experiencing the complete Red Dead Redemption story.

It seems Netflix succeeded in attracting new subscribers – my friend just signed up! If you already have a subscription, you can find it in the Google Play Store or App Store and start watching.

If you prefer to own the game directly and don’t want a subscription, that’s an option. However, I think that money could be better spent – perhaps as a generous contribution to my personal funds. Just let me know how to send you my details!
