Recently, Red Bull introduced their latest urban sports venture named Red Bull Playgrounds, created by Traplight. This new platform features three primary sports: BMX, Parkour, and Skate, all featuring progression paths through Challenge Events. Moreover, it incorporates renowned athletes and well-known brands such as Mongoose and BSD. In this Red Bull Playgrounds review, I will share my thoughts on the game and provide an unbiased rating based on my experience.
To evaluate this game, I spent approximately 15 hours playing Red Bull Playgrounds on the Motorola G32 (Android), which included the beta phase. This ample time enabled me to delve deep into the game’s features and enjoy its offerings fully, giving me a robust understanding for a comprehensive review.
Engage in action-packed urban sports with real pros
Let’s delve into the gameplay of Red Bull Playgrounds! First, select from three urban sports: BMX, Parkour, or Skate, and feel free to change anytime during the game. An expert professional athlete assists you throughout the journey, enhancing your overall experience.
The core of the game involves gathering items, enhancing them, perfecting tricks, and avoiding crashes to advance in the ranks, with the Red Bull League serving as the primary objective. Additionally, you have the option to personalize and vary your play area to reflect a specific theme or increase difficulty.

Although the game provides an enjoyable experience with its diverse gameplay, it may become somewhat monotonous due to currently having just two game modes. On less powerful devices, particularly during the intense Competitive Jams mode, the game performance can be somewhat compromised.
Playing with real athletes and brands is cool, but a lack of content is not
In this game, every sport provides four professional athletes who can be unveiled as you advance through the Rank Challenges, and each athlete excels at distinct stunts. For example, Kriss Kyle is a pro at GRIND stunts, whereas Nikita Ducarros assists in mastering DASH moves.

Additionally, I found myself captivated by the game’s extensive personalization options. You have the freedom to customize the appearances of your Parkour, Skate, and BMX characters individually. Furthermore, authentic merchandise from renowned brands such as Cinema, Fiend, Tall Order, Mongoose, Deathwish, among others, allows you to express your unique style and create a more personalized experience.
To put it simply, although the game is already quite endearing, introducing more levels, game modes, or special events could significantly enhance the gaming experience. It’s currently fun, but who wouldn’t want a bit more to explore and enjoy?
Decent visuals and funky audio, but not quite Red Bull-level
The game’s visuals and audio are generally satisfactory, not particularly stunning but sufficient for their purpose. To my eyes, the somewhat simplistic, cartoonish design seems reminiscent of older sports games. Despite this retro feel, it doesn’t significantly impact the gaming experience as a whole.

Given its origin from Red Bull, I thought it would be more exceptional. As for the audio quality, it’s acceptable for sports titles, maintaining an enjoyable, laid-back atmosphere that doesn’t interfere with gameplay. Some tracks caught my interest, but most of them are not particularly captivating.
Clean UI and smooth controls provide an overall smooth experience
In terms of control and design, Red Bull Playgrounds maintains a streamlined and uncluttered approach. Its intuitive structure ensures smooth navigation, featuring large, readable texts and straightforward icons, thereby reducing potential misunderstandings to a minimum.

In terms of control simplicity, they’re easy to grasp. You’ll find just three fundamental buttons: one for gripping and speeding up, and two for adjusting the tilt. The feedback feels seamless, with no significant problems except for a general lag encountered while playing at high graphic settings.
IAPs do exist, but you can fly without relying on them
Red Bull Playgrounds features various in-app items for purchase, such as the Premium Pass, which grants you an abundance of Gems, VIP Tickets, and a collection of cool tricks. Additionally, you can discover distinct Trick Packs tailored to each sport, enabling you to upgrade your level 10 tricks and earn 150 Skill Points.

Just like packs for Track Pieces, there are also Gems available that you can buy with real money. These Gems can be used to obtain VIP Tickets, Skill Points, and Trick Boxes. But don’t worry if you don’t want to make any purchases, as you can opt for a free-to-play approach by simply grinding extensively instead.
Final Verdict
As a gaming enthusiast with a passion for urban sports, let me tell you about an exhilarating experience I recently had – Red Bull Playgrounds! This game is a blast, packed with engaging challenges that keep you on your toes. Sometimes, the high scores can be tricky to reach, but trust me, the struggle makes it all the more thrilling.
If you’re a cycling or skating aficionado, or simply love the adrenaline rush of urban sports,
Although there were occasional delays in Jam mode or when running high graphics, I found the experience enjoyable as I performed tricks and personalized my playground. It’s worth mentioning that while the game performs well on mid to high-end devices, it could benefit from improved optimization. However, I appreciate the addition of real-life athletes and popular brand gear in the game.
This game offers a variety of experiences, blending multiple sports games, customizable track creation, exciting events called Jams, and stylish equipment. There’s plenty here to hold your interest for some time. Plus, with its intuitive controls, good graphics, lively soundtrack, short play sessions, and if you’re into Red Bull or urban sports, it’s definitely worth a shot!
